Special Assistant: Theatrical Lighting

Special Assistants | Triangle, VA | Part Time

Job Description

Working at the National Museum of the Marine Corps (NMMC), the Theatrical Lighting Special Assistant will work with Exhibit Department Lighting Specialist to inventory and dispose of excess lighting fixtures, as well as install and troubleshoot theatrical light fixtures.

Position is limited to 29 hours per week with a term not to exceed three years.

Duties:

  • Inventory and catalog lighting fixtures
  • Generate paperwork for the disposal of excess fixtures
  • Perform theatrical lighting tasks from a lift, such as: setting light focus and temperature; adding, removing, and troubleshooting theatrical light fixtures; cleaning

Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Suite
  • Experience operating a mobile elevating work platform (lift)
  • Preferred degree in theatrical lighting, exhibit design or museum studies
  • Attention to detail
  • Team player
  • Interest in military and/or American history

Physical Requirements: The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) medium weights of up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to climb and work while standing on ladders up to 10 feet. The employee will navigate crawl spaces and back of house spaces. The employee must safely operate a mobile work platform and work up to 30 feet in the air. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to be in one position for long periods of screen use, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear both in person and over devices. The employee interacts in close spaces and frequently with other workers, vendors, and guests. May be in situations which require conflict resolution. The position works in a museum environment with artificial light and air.
