Marine Corps Heritage Foundation is seeking a highly organized and motivated Part-Time Staff Accountant to play a key role in supporting the financial operations of our nonprofit organization. This part-time position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records with a primary focus on accounts receivable processing and monthly bank reconciliations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and committed to supporting our mission through strong financial stewardship.

Location:

Fully in-person: This is an in-person position located at 1775 Semper Fidelis Way, Triangle, VA 22172 and is approximately 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Cash Receipts

  • Record daily deposits and incoming payments in the accounting system.
  • Maintain organized documentation for grants, donations, and earned revenue.
  • Reconcile donation platform reports (e.g., online giving tools, merchant services) to accounting records.

Bank Reconciliations

  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations for all organizational accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciling items promptly.
  • Ensure all transactions are properly recorded and supported.

General Accounting Support

  • Assist with month-end closing entries as assigned.
  • Maintain orderly financial files and documentation.
  • Assist with annual financial audit as directed.
  • Support the Finance/Accounting team with occasional special projects.
  • Uphold internal controls and support compliance with nonprofit financial best practices.

Requirements:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, nonprofit experience a plus.
  • Proficiency with Sage Intacct preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting procedures.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a part‑time schedule.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to be in one position for long periods of screen use, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear both in person and over devices. The employee interacts in close spaces and frequently with other workers, vendors, and clients. May be in situations which require conflict resolution. The position works in an office environment with artificial light and air.
