Position Summary:
We’re looking for a skilled Process Controls Engineer to drive measurable improvements in manufacturing performance through advanced control systems and automation. This role focuses on applying technical expertise to enhance raw material efficiency, energy usage, reliability, and product quality, while providing full-cycle support for automation projects—from concept to commissioning.

Key Objectives:

  • Optimize plant performance aligned with business goals: reduce cost, improve throughput, ensure quality.

  • Deliver expert-level support on automation projects including DCS/PLC design, programming, and implementation.

  • Advance site process safety through support of PHA, LOPA, and SIS in accordance with ISA 61511.

  • Lead DCS lifecycle upgrades, migrations, and system planning from legacy platforms to modern technologies.

  • Apply emerging process control technology to gain competitive edge and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement process control strategies for chemical manufacturing operations.

  • Configure, program, and maintain DCS/PLC systems including DeltaV and/or Fisher ProVOX.

  • Identify and deploy control system enhancements using APC, MPC, adaptive tuning, and soft sensors.

  • Collaborate with operations and engineering to troubleshoot and improve process control applications.

  • Lead cross-functional automation projects and provide technical mentorship.

  • Develop KPIs, track process performance, and leverage Six Sigma and CI tools to drive improvement.

  • Transfer advanced control techniques into daily operations and provide training to plant personnel.

  • Ensure compliance with documentation standards and management of change protocols.

Team Structure:

  • Reports to: I&E and Process Control Reliability Manager

  • Collaborates with: Process Control Group

Qualifications:

Required:

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering (Electrical Engineering considered with proven controls expertise)

  • 5+ years in chemical/refinery/energy manufacturing

  • Hands-on DCS/PLC programming experience in continuous or batch operations

  • Working knowledge of Process Safety (PHA, LOPA), SIS, and ISA 61511

  • Demonstrated experience improving control systems and process performance

Preferred:

  • DeltaV and ProVOX/Envox experience

  • Strong grasp of Six Sigma/Lean tools

  • Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) training and application

  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and work cross-functionally

  • Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring abilities
