Position Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on Engineering and Maintenance Supervisor with proven experience managing commercial building operations. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of maintenance, repair, renovation, and minor construction across the organization’s commercial properties. The position leads a team of internal staff and external contractors to ensure facility safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead daily operations of engineering and maintenance teams serving commercial facilities.
Plan, prioritize, and schedule preventative maintenance, repairs, renovations, and small construction projects.
Conduct regular inspections of building systems and infrastructure; identify and address maintenance needs.
Ensure full compliance with OSHA, building codes, fire/life safety standards, and local regulations.
Collaborate with department heads to report equipment conditions, coordinate emergency repairs, and recommend upgrades.
Prepare and manage operating budgets and capital improvement plans.
Oversee the work order process (e.g., CMMS), ensuring timely completion and proper documentation.
Recruit, train, evaluate, and mentor maintenance staff; encourage ongoing skill development and safety training.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance logs, timekeeping, equipment inventory, and regulatory documentation.
Support inspections and initiatives tied to safety, life safety systems, and code compliance.
Manage procurement and inventory of tools, materials, and supplies.
Contribute to department projects and lead infrastructure-related initiatives across commercial facilities.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required
Associate’s Degree or technical/apprenticeship training in a construction or facilities-related field preferred
Experience:
Minimum of 4 years in a lead or supervisory role within facilities, maintenance, or building operations
Must have direct experience managing commercial building maintenance
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid Virginia Driver’s License
Trade license preferred (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing)
Technical Skills & Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of commercial building systems and maintenance standards
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and schematics
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and work order systems (CMMS)
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Able to respond during emergencies and weather-related events; role is classified as essential personnel
