Position Overview

We’re seeking a mission-driven finance leader to serve as Director of Accounting for a large charitable nonprofit. This role oversees budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting functions, while also providing financial leadership for the organization’s largest agency, Family and Community Services.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead accounting operations, budgeting, and reporting in coordination with the CFO.

• Supervise direct reports including: Accounting Manager, Contract/Voucher Manager, Client Financial Analyst, and Adult Guardianship Program Financial Lead.

• Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.

• Oversee audits, regulatory filings, and internal controls.

• Drive process improvements, financial analysis, and forecasting.

• Collaborate with senior leaders and external funders on budgeting and reporting.

• Support strategic initiatives with data-driven insights.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master’s or CPA preferred.

• Experience:

  • 10+ years in nonprofit finance and accounting

  • 5+ years in a senior leadership or director-level role

• Competencies:

  • Deep knowledge of nonprofit funding (Federal & NY State)

  • Expertise in financial operations, analysis, and internal controls

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and team management skills

  • Ability to build effective partnerships across departments and agencies
