Position Overview
We’re seeking a mission-driven finance leader to serve as Director of Accounting for a large charitable nonprofit. This role oversees budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting functions, while also providing financial leadership for the organization’s largest agency, Family and Community Services.
Key Responsibilities
Lead accounting operations, budgeting, and reporting in coordination with the CFO.
Supervise direct reports including: Accounting Manager, Contract/Voucher Manager, Client Financial Analyst, and Adult Guardianship Program Financial Lead.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
Oversee audits, regulatory filings, and internal controls.
Drive process improvements, financial analysis, and forecasting.
Collaborate with senior leaders and external funders on budgeting and reporting.
Support strategic initiatives with data-driven insights.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master’s or CPA preferred.
Experience:
10+ years in nonprofit finance and accounting
5+ years in a senior leadership or director-level role
Competencies:
Deep knowledge of nonprofit funding (Federal & NY State)
Expertise in financial operations, analysis, and internal controls
Strong interpersonal, leadership, and team management skills
Ability to build effective partnerships across departments and agencies
