Senior Cloud Systems Architect

Job Description

SCOPE

The Senior Cloud Systems Architect is responsible for architecting, designing and building multiple environments in MAP’s Hybrid Cloud and On-premise infrastructure.  He/she will bring experience in architecting and managing cloud based infrastructure and sys-admin skills for application deployment and management while assisting in build engineering activities and looking for ways to automate the end-to-end deployment process. The Systems Architect will be responsible for architecture and build of MAP’s infrastructure, storage, all application and data environment, servers, network devices, and productivity tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Architect and implement multi-vendor cloud based and virtual infrastructure, also assist in automation deployment, improve maintenance, support and troubleshooting practices
  • Architect production and supporting environments using Amazon Web Services, vendor partner’s Cloud environments and OnRamp visualization stack with a zero-customer impact objective
  • Design and manage compute and storage resource capacity to optimize system performance
  • Lead the management of Cloud computing solutions in AWS as well as using Containers and Serverless computing architecture
  • Server as subject matter expert in key initiatives and projects where systems architecture and infrastructure is involved
  • Maintain an organized systems architecture using system documentation and technology team wiki. Lead all new product/ technology vendor integration of overall architectural framework
  • Lead design of system performance tuning and patch management and validate and implement critical system patches and monitoring
  • Develop system requirements through interaction with end-users and coordinate with development team on systematic enhancements or changes
  • Lead the design of automation that integrates multi-automation solutions such as Chef, Puppet, Vagarant, Docker, Sensu and Ansible (Proficiency in 1or 2 is ok)
  • Guide development teams in all engineering activities to include: new system release installation/patching/upgrades, third party tools installation, software licensing, disaster recovery and high availability planning, datacenter relocation/migrations and performance tuning
  • Participate in multi-team planning for above activities and follow through with appropriate tasks
  • Apply advanced troubleshooting techniques to provide unique solutions to the infrastructure needs
  • Work co-operatively with key team members and vendors
  • Collaborate with other IT services and Technology Engineering groups by seeking, using and giving feedback on architecture/design
  • Work within strict time frames and elevate incidents within defined timeframes
  • Monitors service delivery compliance to budget, quality standards and customer and business stakeholder requirements
  • Follows issues through to completion to ensure quick and timely resolution

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • BS or higher education in Computer Science, Software Engineering or IT-oriented degree program
  • 5+ years Systems architecture experience, preferably in a Cloud Infrastructure, DevOps or similar role
  • Design of cloud-based technology solution experience (EC2/AWS) is a must
  • Relevant work experience in Enterprise Systems administration. Linux Server based experience is must
  • Experience with task automation using off-the-shelf tools and/or customized scripts
  • Experience administering Windows systems and server infrastructure
  • Understanding of AWS and similar Cloud services with Lambda based serverless computing and Container based architecture is a plus
  • Experience in AWS server management and security is a plus
  • Understanding of Active Directory and Single Sign On technology like Okta
  • Knowledge of virtualization environments (e.g. VMWare, OpenStack, KVM)
  • Knowledge of distributed version control systems (e.g. Git/Stash)
  • Experience with automated build and deployment tools (Jenkins, uDeploy, Maven or Chef, etc.)
  • Experience working on open source platforms (Apache, Tomcat, Node.js, etc)
  • Installing and administering MySQL or open source no-SQL databases
  • Excellent writing and communication skills 
  • Application performance tuning a plus
  • Excellent analytical, troubling shooting and decision making skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work efficiently, both with and without direct supervision
