Many Languages One Voice (MLOV), was founded in 2010, and our mission is to foster the leadership and greater civic participation of immigrants and refugees who do not speak English as a primary language. We believe an actively engaged community that challenges existing inequities by dominant power is key to achieving systemic change. Thus, we support our members’ leadership and amplify the voice of our most vulnerable members to find solutions to the systemic racial inequities that impact their lives.

MLOV is a leading player in the immigrant rights and justice movement in DC and regularly builds partnerships and coalitions with wide-ranging stakeholders. In addition to nonprofits and community organizations, MLOV works with government officials, agencies, businesses, and worker groups to advance power-building of immigrant communities in DC.

MLOV’s Youth Programming focuses on providing immigrant youth with pathways to academic success, civic/social engagement, and leadership/empowerment through after-school and summer programming. Our programming provides a safe and empowering space for immigrant and English Learner youth, and helps youth build confidence around their identity, leadership and advocacy. Youth Program activities include homework support, structured lessons, group discussions, group projects, engaging with local policy makers, and field trips.

Summer Youth Program Assistant: The Summer Youth Program Assistant will provide logistical and programmatic support for MLOV’s Summer Youth Program aimed at youth in grades 6-12 (ages 11-18), in partnership with other program staff and/or volunteers.

This role is a summer position from late-June until early-August 2024.

Desired start date for this role is Monday, June 24th, with an end date of Friday, August 9th.

Overview of responsibilities:

  • The Summer Program Assistant will be required to be in-person during the hours of 8 am - 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday, from July 8 to August 9, 2024, with the possibility of earlier arrival or later departure based on program needs.
  • The Summer Program Assistant will be responsible for supporting logistical aspects of the MLOV Summer Youth Program. This includes:
    • Ordering and serving food during the program;
    • Provide programmatic and operational support for the program on-site and off-site (field trips);
    • Support program staff in implementing activities for summer youth program participants (distributing and gathering supplies, setting up technology, etc.);
    • Conduct logistics work with a positive, can-do, attitude, and support building rapport with program participants;
    • Assisting in the preparation of materials for programs, assisting with set up andclean up, as well as clerical duties such as filing, and data entry;
    • Support with maintaining attendance records;
    • Assisting in the check in/out of students;
    • Assist in the collection of paperwork and surveys from students;
    • Maintain a safe and supportive environment for all youth;
    • Adhere to all program and MLOV organizational policies;

An ideal candidate characteristics:

  • At least a High School Diploma with specific focus in education, educational leadership, development, or related field;
  • Experience working directly with immigrant children/young people in Washington DC;
  • Fluency in a language in addition to English prefered, preferably Spanish;
  • Possesses or willing to undergo the following background checks
    • Current check from DC Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA) Child Protection Registry (CPR)
    • Current check from Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
    • Current check from Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Criminal Background Check, and
    • Current check from National Sex Offender Registry (NSO).
  • Is a self-starter, motivated and takes initiative;
  • Excellent communication skills.
