What the job is 

We're a small company, that uses a small team approach (about 5-6 engineers per team). Our engineering team is based in our Draper, UT office (in the Salt Lake City, UT area).

We are looking for a data engineer to design and build ETL solutions from our production data stores into our data warehouse and reporting solutions to help us make critical business decisions.

We’re looking for someone who has a working knowledge in software development and dev ops concepts, enough to provide insight and feedback on query and data storage usage practices for better performance and maintainability.

Experience in our exact stack is not a requirement, we’re looking for a person who is a curious doer. 

And since we’re a distributed team, we’re looking for individuals who can collaborate with remote team members over chat and video conferencing. We are a small team, we look for individuals who can contribute at the highest level in all facets of the development cycle.

  • Design and manage ETL and data warehousing with open source and cloud native tools

  • Design and optimize schema and queries for both data analytics and production data platforms

  • Build and maintain executive metrics dashboards

  • Manage, monitor and operate production data platforms, including identifying and optimizing poorly performing queries

  • Design schemas and normalization strategies based on business needs for both data warehouse and production application databases.

  • Identify information challenges and opportunities within our organization and develop innovative data architecture solutions that can assist with these challenges

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to optimize data access patterns in our applications

  • Work closely with software engineers, product managers and business leaders to answer business questions is consistent and available

Job Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related field 

  • 3+ years of experience in building and operating data ecosystems

  • Experience with various relational databases, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redshift etc

  • Strong SQL skills

  • Demonstrate clear and concise communication and data-driven decision-making capability

  • Ability to contribute to database best practices, patterns and schema design input.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time effectively.

  • Creative problem solver who thrives when presented a challenge.

  • Decisive and critical thinker.

  • The ability to collaborate with others.

  • The ability to work effectively in real-time with engineers in remote locations.

  • Experience with Data Warehousing, Data Pipelines, ETL

  • Have some background in Linux, Open Source and scripting
