Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Position:

We are seeking a mechanical engineer who is highly organized and motivated, with superb hands-on skills. This role will include supporting all engineering endeavors, interacting with contract manufacturers, organizing the lab space, and being aware of all ongoing mechanical projects.


  • Develop concepts and detailed designs of vehicle parts and assemblies

  • Create conceptual and detailed 3D parts, assemblies, and layouts and 2D drawings using SolidWorks.

  • Work with domestic and international suppliers during design phase on procurement of prototype parts.

  • Work with design and manufacturing team for cost effective new designs and cost improvement on existing designs.

  • Conduct and participate in design reviews.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience (M.S. preferred)

  • 2-5 years of mechanical design experience with SolidWorks (preferred), ProE, or Inventor. Matlab, Mathematica, Python, or similar scripting / analysis tool capability.

  • Experience with mechatronics/robotics and electrical instrumentation.

  • Ability to summarize and transfer data across multiple tools and teams.

  • Experience with materials selection/design trade-offs; ferrous, non ferrous and plastics (thermoplastics and thermosets).

  • Experience with product design for manufacturing and new product introduction.

  • Must have demonstrated experience resolving technical problems using both an analytical approach and an experimental approach.

Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Experience with cast, machined, or extruded parts is a plus.

  • Experience performing FEA/FEM analysis.

  • Passion for two wheeled vehicles, electric motors, and control systems.

  • Background in vehicle dynamics modelling and control system design.

  • Hands on manufacturing experience.
