Family Service Coordinator

Direct Services | Pontiac, MI | Full Time

Job Description

Lighthouse is seeking a full-time Service Coordinator to assist in serving women and children experiencing and escaping domestic violence and/or homelessness, throughout Oakland County. This position will work to identify families in need, work with them to secure safe and affordable housing, and provide wrap around supportive services to ensure their long-term stability and safety. This position will be assisting in creating a streamlined, county-wide, referral system to ensure families experiencing domestic violence can be easily identified, directed, and connected to critical housing resources. This position will spend much of its time in the field conducting outreach, and will have office space at our Pontiac, Lathrup Village, and Clarkston offices.


With the mission of building communities that end poverty, Lighthouse works to meet the needs of those facing economic crises, including hunger and homelessness, throughout Oakland County. Lighthouse offers a wide variety of services to assist people experiencing homelessness and poverty, including: a rotating emergency shelter, food pantries, case management, and various housing assistance programs.


  • Work to identify, service, and refer DV & Human Trafficking populations within Oakland County, 

  • Conduct community-based outreach & trainings (social service agencies, community organizations, hospitals, local police, etc.) to effectively screen and identify population,

  • Create a list of shelters and safe houses specific to DV & Human Trafficking populations,

  • Network and collaborate with local shelters, safe houses, and hotel programs, to quickly move fleeing DV clients to safe housing,

  • Provide over the phone crisis intervention and referrals,

  • Conduct outreach at local service providers to streamline and coordinate the housing process,

  • Work with landlords to create a list of open units for quicker transition into housing,

  • Assess victims situation by completing a Danger Assessment and Vulnerable Index assessment for individuals and families,

  • Assist families in establishing an ongoing safety plan,

  • Place eligible households on our Domestic Violence & Human Trafficking Housing Registry,

  • Work with team to keep the Housing Registry up-to-date,

  • For all households on the Housing Registry, provide weekly contact to ensure their safety, and provide case management services. Contact can be over the phone, at our offices, or within the community.
  • Assist families with accessing a variety of resources including, furniture, utility assistance, legal resources, child care assistance, food, clothing, and temporary shelter,

  • Before and after households are pulled from the Registry, assist them with locating and securing safe and affordable housing, including coordinating housing services with other providers,

  • Work with HAVEN to assist households in obtaining Protective Orders,

  • Participate in relevant internal and external task-forces, committees,and meetings,
  • Assist with daily office operations, including answering phones and crisis calls, as needed,
  • Participate in HMIS & Link 2 Feed data collection.


  • Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years of experience in human services preferred,

  • Experience working with low-income individuals and families,

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps,

  • Strong communication skills,

  • An appetite for innovation and creative problem-solving,

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends,

  • Reliable transportation.


  • Professional or lived experience with domestic violence population,
  • Some knowledge of the social services landscape in Oakland County and surrounding areas,

  • Experience with Homeless Management Information System.
