With over 80 years of combined experience, Lighthouse serves as a beacon of hope to our neighbors who need it most by offering assistance with emergency basic needs alongside housing programs and supportive services designed to support long-term economic stability. Lighthouse owns and operates Spero Housing Group, a subsidiary non-profit dedicated specifically to developing and operating high quality affordable and supportive housing for persons of low and moderate income, as well as HandUp, a community and crowdfunding platform serving 100+ homeless service agencies and their clients across the United States.

 

Position Summary

We are seeking a facilities maintenance tech to join our team at Lighthouse. This dedicated individual will partner with his or her peers and report to the Lead Facilities Manager to develop and implement the internal review and maintenance processes that allow Lighthouse to continue to effectively serve the stakeholders, families and communities served by Lighthouse.

 

Responsibilities: Staff Management

  • Maintain building sites, in excellent operational condition for the health and safety of staff and families served. Responsible for supervising volunteer and community service workers assigned to Lighthouse.  

 

Responsibilities: General

  • Assist in future site planning for new programs
  • Conduct HQS Inspections on rental properties as needed
  • Responsible for safe storage and distribution of all building keys with a written record of those who are assigned keys
  • Maintain grounds of all Lighthouse MI properties
  • Work as a team to keep properties maintained and handle all maintenance concerns
  •  

Responsibilities:  Building systems

  • Maintain alarm systems and security systems/cameras
  • Perform safety inspections of buildings and grounds to maintain state/local compliance
  • Maintain safety equipment within the building:  fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, smoke detectors, etc…
  • Monitors inspections and testing of all fire alarm and sprinkler control systems by outside contractors
  • Responsible for all monthly fire drills and testing of smoke alarms 
  • Responsible for trouble shooting HVAC equipment and performing weekly check of the building generator
  • Available via phone/pager 24/7 for building emergencies on a rotating basis(power outages, fires, police, weather, heating, plumbing, floods)
  •  Act as first response to all hazardous spills

 

Responsibilities: Lighthouse Managed properties

  • Cleaning as needed due to CoVid 19 protocol of the interior of Path buildings, including but not limited to, cleaning and sanitizing the bathrooms, sweeping and mopping all tile floors, emptying trash and vacuuming all carpeting.
  • Monitor and inventory furniture, household items and supplies.  Keep furniture and appliance in units in working order and replace or repair when needed.  
  • Repair any residential or building maintenance problems in a timely fashion
  • Cleaning tasks such as washing windows and wall surfaces on as needed basis
  • Maintain the outside grounds of the building:  Mowing and trimming, picking up trash, planting and caring for flowers
  • During winter, keep ice and snow removed from walkways and entrances
  •  Assist with pre-meeting set-up and post-meeting break down and clean up, to include any equipment usage
  • Report major equipment dysfunction to supervisors and assist in having equipment repaired as required.
  • Supervises contractual, maintenance personnel and volunteers
  • Provide general maintenance as needed

Responsibilities: Corporate office

  • As needed during CoVid 19 protocol cleaning of the interior of 46156 Woodward Avenue, including but not limited to, cleaning and sanitizing the bathrooms, sweeping and mopping all tile floors, emptying trash and vacuuming all carpeting.
  • Cleaning tasks such as washing windows and wall surfaces on as needed  basis
  • Maintain the outside grounds of the building:  Mowing and trimming, picking up trash, planting and caring for flowers
  • During winter, keep ice and snow removed from walkways and entrances
  •  Assist with pre-meeting set-up and post-meeting break down and clean up, to include any equipment usage
  •  Report major equipment dysfunction to supervisors and assist in having equipment repaired as required.
  • Maintain and order stock of paper products and cleaning supplies in appropriate areas
  • Supervises facilities oriented volunteers
  • Provide general maintenance as needed

Professional Training Goals and Expectations:

  • Become proficient in system applications (i.e. Google calendar, email, etc...)
  • Attend facilities trainings as needed.
  • HQS inspections peer training


Minimum and Preferred Requirements: 

  1. Minimum of 1 year experience working in a facilities role; nonprofit experience highly preferred
  2. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  3. Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, and excellent verbal and written communication capabilities
  4. An appetite for innovation and creative problem-solving
