Lighthouse MI is a growing non-profit, established in 2019 when Lighthouse of Oakland County and South Oakland Shelter joined forces to offer a stronger collective response to poverty in our Metro Detroit community. With over 80 years of combined experience, Lighthouse serves as a beacon of hope to our neighbors who need it most by offering assistance with emergency basic needs alongside housing programs and supportive services designed to support long-term economic stability. Lighthouse owns and operates Spero Housing Group, a subsidiary non-profit dedicated specifically to developing and operating high quality affordable and supportive housing for persons of low and moderate income, as well as HandUp, a community and crowdfunding platform serving 100+ homeless service agencies and their clients across the United States.

Position Summary:

Lighthouse is looking for a dynamic leader to serve as the Director of Business Operations at Lighthouse. This experienced and dedicated individual will partner with the executive leadership team to develop and implement the internal operational systems and structures that will support the mission and vision of the organization. As the day-to-day internal business operations leader, the Director of Business Operations reports directly to the Chief Real Estate & Community Development Officer. The Director of Business Operations will lead and coordinate Lighthouse's internal business operations to align with the organization's mission, vision and goals; and ensure a conscientious approach to supporting our workforce that reflects and supports the needs of the stakeholders, families and communities served by Lighthouse. 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Defining, implementing and revising operational policies and guidelines for the organization, including 

  • specific elements of new employee set-up regarding computer dissemination, IT and phone usage 
  • monitoring and managing of various real estate and facilities related matters 
  • handling administrative related needs for client services that fall outside of the realm of peers in client services
  • managing procurement and resource allocation of all supplies 
  • overseeing and assisting with the opening and processing of mail at all locations
  •  providing onsite general tech support for staff as requested 

Responsibilities: General

  • Participate in relevant internal and external task-forces, committees, and meetings, 

  • Assist with daily office operations, including answering phones and crisis calls, as needed


  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, management or a related field. A master's degree in business administration, finance, personnel management or a related field is highly preferred. 

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working in an operations role and five years' experience in a management or leadership capacity; nonprofit experience highly preferred 

  • Professional certifications or professional development in operations management, project management, data analysis or supply chain management may be very useful

  •  Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills 

  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, and excellent verbal and written communication capabilities 

  • An appetite for innovation and creative problem-solving 

  • Excellent leadership and organizational abilities

  •  Proven knowledge of performance evaluation metrics in a business setting 

  • Outstanding negotiation skills Demonstrated success innovating solutions to increase productivity and profitability. 


  • Professional or lived experience with homeless populations,

  • Some knowledge of the social services landscape in Oakland County and surrounding areas, preferred,

Salary Range $60,000-$64,000 Commensurate with experience
