With over 80 years of combined experience, Lighthouse serves as a beacon of hope to our neighbors who need it most by offering assistance with emergency basic needs alongside housing programs and supportive services designed to support long-term economic stability. Lighthouse owns and operates Spero Housing Group, a subsidiary non-profit dedicated specifically to developing and operating high quality affordable and supportive housing for persons of low and moderate income, as well as HandUp, a community and crowdfunding platform serving 100+ homeless service agencies and their clients across the United States.

Position Summary

Lighthouse is seeking a highly-motivated and organized Development Associate to support a variety of key areas, including donor data entry, donor acknowledgment and stewardship efforts, special event support, and general development support. The Development Associate position is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week. This position will report directly to the Director of Development Operations and Communications.

Responsibilities & Duties

  1. Enter and update constituent data, including demographic, contact, and relationship information.

  2. Assist in entering and maintaining information to support the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts of the development department.

  3. Utilize and maintain an efficient filing system for physical donor data backup documentation.

  4. Run routine data queries in RE NXT or other systems as needed.

  5. Other data entry projects as assigned.

  6. Support key fundraising events by coordinating committee communications and scheduling, assisting in securing key auction items, providing design support, and assisting with event logistics.

  7. Assist in outreach activities for the CEO and CDO, including the scheduling of key meetings with top individuals, corporations, foundations, and prospects.

  8. Assist with other administrative duties, such as preparing written correspondence when needed, filing, phone management, etc.

  9. Uphold agency values to maintain a safe, client-centered, and inclusive environment for clients, staff, interns, and volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Associates degree

  2. Desire to work with people experiencing homelessness or extreme levels of poverty in the US

  3. Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps

  4. Ability to learn complex data entry codes and procedures quickly

  5. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in recording information

  6. Ability to use tact, discretion, and good judgment in working with confidential information

  7. Positive attitude in a fast-paced nonprofit environment

  8. Flexibility and the capacity to prioritize tasks in a rapidly changing environment

  9. Ability to multitask effectively

  10. Excellent organizational and follow-through skills

  11. Clear and effective communication with team members and donors

  12. Demonstrates reliability, responsiveness, and courtesy in all team and donor interactions

  13. Strong written communication skills

  14. Reliable transportation

  15. Valid Michigan driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelors from a 4-year accredited college or university or master’s degree in a relevant field

  2. Lived or professional experience working with people experiencing homelessness or extreme levels of poverty in the US

  3. 1-2 years’ experience in a role directly or indirectly related to database support and/or data entry

  4. Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge experience

  5. Knowledge of the social services landscape in Oakland County and surrounding areas

  6. Ability to self-regulate and work independently while coordinating with other staff

  7. An appetite for innovation and creative problem-solving

  8. CPR, Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Care, Housing First, and SPDAT training

  9. Proven ability to work effectively with racially and ethnically diverse clients and teams

  10. Experience in managing and leading teams

  11. Ability to build consensus and resolve conflict; exhibits willingness to have difficult conversations

  12. Exceptional communication ability, both written and oral

  13. Ability to listen and accept feedback constructively

  14. Possess high emotional intelligence skills

  15. Unwavering personal integrity

  16. Ability to work in a fast paced, demanding, constantly changing environment
