COVID Response Emergency Food Warehouse Manager

With over 80 years of combined experience, Lighthouse serves as a beacon of hope to our neighbors who need it most by offering assistance with emergency basic needs alongside housing programs and supportive services designed to support long-term economic stability. Lighthouse owns and operates Spero Housing Group, a subsidiary non-profit dedicated specifically to developing and operating high quality affordable and supportive housing for persons of low and moderate income, as well as HandUp, a community and crowdfunding platform serving 100+ homeless service agencies and their clients across the United States.
Lighthouse and Oakland University have partnered to streamline and expand Oakland County’s emergency food system during the pandemic. The Oakland Center on Oakland University’s campus served as the hub for packing and distributing food boxes. Food is purchased in bulk, delivered to the Oakland Center, packed and stored, and distributed in a variety of ways.
Lighthouse is hiring a temporary Emergency Food Warehouse Manager to oversee the daily operations of the My COVID Response emergency food distribution efforts. This role will serve as a liaison between Lighthouse staff, volunteers, and community partners. The Emergency Food Warehouse Manager will work to identify food stock available in the emergency warehouse, provide directions to volunteers on packing boxes, sorting incoming food, and determining outgoing food to families on a daily basis. They will maintain a daily inventory in collaboration with staff and volunteers, and will alert Lighthouse staff on anticipated needs in a timely fashion. The Emergency Food Warehouse Manager must be reliable and punctual, be able to lift and move pallets of food with assistance, able to problem solve and make quick decisions, as well as be mission-driven and community oriented. The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong verbal communication and organizational skills.
Hours: M-F, 40 hours/week,8:30am-4:30pm. Rotating Saturday shift.
Tasks may vary depending on that week’s unique needs, but will be in alignment with the general responsibilities listed below.
Work with the team to train and direct onsite volunteers,
Lead communications between teams to coordinate services and supplier deliveries,
Participate in regular team meetings/calls,
Organize incoming pallets of food,
Maintain accurate inventory of food,
Ensure appropriate quality control of perishable food items,
Track outgoing food boxes to assist in monitoring daily inventory levels,
Create organizational systems to communicate onsite and offsite,
Implement and enforce social distancing procedures to maintain a safe environment for volunteers and staff.
Requirements & Preferences:
Ability to lift 50 lbs,
Ability to work weekends as needed,
Proficient in G Suite and Microsoft Office,
Flexible working style with the ability to adapt to a changing environment,
Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detail,
Strong verbal communication skills.
