The Opportunity

Fitness & Health Elective Teacher - Competencies, Responsibilities, and Qualifications

Lighthouse Community Public School is looking for a Fitness & Health Elective Teacher to instruct fitness classes at the 5-8 school level. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaching fitness elective classes to students in 5-8 classes covering a variety of fitness topics (including both physical fitness and possibly nutrition, health, and wellness). Create clear unit and curriculum plans as well as daily lesson plans aligned to physical fitness standards and as directed to CCSS science/health standards.

  • Leading one grade-level crew of 5th-grade students in an advisory style course and collaborating with that grade level team to design and implement shared practices,

  • Facilitate community building experiences with a team of people and provide academic support in a study hall for 2 classes a week.

  • Sound Pedagogy: Effectively implement Lighthouse’s preferred pedagogies, authentic curriculum design, and assessment methods that emphasize the depth of understanding over breadth, integration of fieldwork and experts.

  • Professional Development: Attend and actively participate in professional development activities, team and staff meetings to improve teaching craft.

  • Collaborate: Actively collaborate with instructional staff, community building teammates, and the larger Lighthouse Community.

  • Establish Goals: Set clear short-term and long-term goals to drive instruction.

  • Assessment: Consistently assess student progress to inform students and parents of progress as well as informing Coordination of Services Team decisions for students who are struggling academically, socially, or emotionally.  This includes, but is not limited to, the use of internal programs such as JumpRope.

  • Support: Consistently implement support plans for all identified students to maximize success for all students.

  • Policies and Procedures:  Administer Lighthouse’s student policies and procedures (i.e. attendance, dress code, etc.).

  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor


 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least two years of teaching experience preferred

  • B.A./B.S. required; Master’s Degree preferred

  • Experience with Google apps preferred

  • Bilingual in Spanish a Plus


Time Commitment

This position is a full-time 11-month salaried exempt position. These positions are in line with Lighthouse’s 200-day work year, and require the following full-time hours: 8:00-4: 00 pm M/T/Th/Fri and 8:00-5: 00 pm Wed.
