The Opportunity
Behavior Support Specialist (25-26SY)
Lighthouse Community Public Schools is looking for a Behavior Support Specialist to join our team. Our mission is to ensure that traditionally underserved students of color have the opportunity to complete college, secure a career of their choice, and become lifelong changemakers. The Behavior Support Specialist works as a part of a team to provide a holistic, humanizing, and empowering learning environment for students. The Behavior Support Specialist is responsible for administering intensive behavior intervention programs to identified students, primarily focusing on ensuring all students receive necessary behavioral and socio-emotional support to thrive in alignment with the Lighthouse Mission. The Behavior Support Specialist may provide coaching, modeling, and development opportunities to school staff.
Essential Responsibilities:
Behavior Wellness Intervention Services
Design and implement behavior and social-emotional supports across all tiers with an emphasis on Tier 2 and 3 supports and services
Plan and lead small groups or individual sessions with students to support the development of pro-social behaviors and increase their academic engagement
Provide direct behavioral intervention/modification for students that decreases engagement in disruptive, harmful or negative behaviors and increases engagement in positive replacement behaviors as appropriate.
Foster strong therapeutic relationships with students that support engagement at school
Develop and oversee the implementation of behavior intervention plans (BIP) and provide direct behavior wellness services as identified in the BIP
Utilize crisis communication and de-escalation techniques. This may include intervening with the clients' behavioral program through physical management of the clients, if applicable. Training in additional crisis intervention modalities such as CPI is required.
Provide effective supervision of students at all times to maintain safety.
Professional Development & Staff Training
Provide support in the implementation of behavior intervention plans through coaching, modeling, and professional development for teachers and support staff to increase capacity and knowledge of trauma-informed practices
Support Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS) through individual, classroom-wide, and school-wide training/coaching and professional development
Participate in professional development and maintain knowledge of best practices in social-emotional and behavioral supports
Data Collection & Documentation
Complete required data collection and service documentation to measure the effectiveness of services, inform team decision making, and provide documentation for service billing.
Meet metrics for billing targets for MediCal and private insurance service billing and be responsive to feedback on the quality assurance process.
Communication & Collaboration
Collaborate with site leaders to implement interventions, monitor the impact of the supports, and provide information related to disciplinary and re-entry processes
Participate as a member of the COST team to support the identification and behavioral assessment of students who would benefit from additional behavioral supports.
Work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team with teachers, therapists, and other specialists/educational staff
Model asset based language that centers on student strengths when planning for intervention
Communicate regularly with families to ensure aligned supports for students
Collaborate with outside agencies, as needed

Minimum Qualifications:
Possess Certified Wellness Coach certification or meet requirements necessary to attain certification as established by the CA Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI)
Level 1 Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Addiction Services,3 or Psychology, required
1350 field experience hours required
Level 2 Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree, required; preferred in Social Work, Human Services, Addiction Services, and Psychology or equivalent
Master’s Degree in Education, School Counseling, or Psychology, preferred
2,700 field experience hours required
Experience must be providing direct pre-clinical behavioral health services to children and youth through age 25 in a school-linked/school-based organizations, non-profits, community organizations and/or health centers/clinics within the last six years. These services should align with the Certified Wellness Coach scope as necessary for certification
2 + years working directly with students in a school-based setting, preferred
Bilingual in Spanish, desired
Environmental Requirements:
Able to work in:
Loud environments such as cafeterias, playgrounds, classrooms, and large professional settings
Indoor/Outdoor adaptability to all weather conditions related to outdoor activities and/or travel to field trips and school-sponsored events
Airconditioned and heated environments under fluorescent lighting.
Physical Demands:
Ability to: See and hear on a continuous basis and speak frequently. Sit and stand for extended periods of time. Stop, extend, kneel and reach. Lift up to 25 pounds. Walk for long periods of time. On rare occasions, would need to move quickly or run over smooth to uneven surfaces indoor/outdoor. Repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding and whiteboard usage. Occasional travel to sites for PD within and outside LCPS.
Time Commitment: This position is a full-time salaried exempt 10-month position that follows the 190-day school year calendar.
Common Building Hours: 8:00am-4:00pm M/T/Th/F and 8:00am-5:00pm W.
Occasional evening events during the year, including start of year Icecream Social, Back to School Night, Expo, and other events identified by the school calendar in advance
Supervision
This position reports to the Program Specialist and/or Principal or designee.
