The Opportunity

About the Extended Day Program Coordinator Role

We are looking for an Extended Day Program Coordinator with the vision, passion, and skill set to manage a team in providing a safe, student-centered after school program for Lodestar students. The Extended Day Program Coordinator will be a skilled facilitator of school culture, a coach of students, a liaison to families, a professional collaborator, and an effective coordinator of a diverse team. During Extended Day Program hours, this role is the face of Lodestar, responsible for greeting visitors and fielding inquiries for the school community, while ensuring safe enrichment and dismissal for our students in the Extended Day Program. He/she is capable of handling multiple tasks and executing each in an effective manner.

Responsibilities: Extended Day Coordinator               

Oversee Extended Day Program Personnel and Systems

  • Provide on-site daily oversight and coordination of a safe and healthy Extended Day Program.

  • Supervise and support  Extended Day Program personnel, including on-staff personnel, contracted instructors, and Americorps Fellows, as needed, including covering for staff absences during program.

  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers, and maintain any external partnerships that support the Extended Day Program.

  • Implement the systems for student recruitment, lottery, and enrollment for approximately 60 students.

  • Create and manage a system to communicate Extended Day plans and expectations with families.

  • Create and manage a system for collecting and monitoring Extended Day Program Fees.

  • Coordinate the ordering and maintenance of programmatic materials and supplies associated with Extended Day Program, including sports/arts equipment, technology, snacks, and educational materials.

  • Coordinate front desk during Extended Day hours (approximately 5:00-6:00pm), including receiving phone calls and guests, taking messages, coordinating Extended Day Program attendance, and communicating with families.

  • Ensure program alignment with compliance related requirements as needed, including tracking and sharing enrollment and program data.

  • Additional duties, as assigned by Supervisor.

Strategically Plan Extended Day Program Options

  • Collaboratively create the vision for Extended Day Program, working with Lodestar leaders and teachers to ensure consistency in programs, systems, and expectations throughout a child’s day.  

  • Ensure Extended Day Program options support the Whole Child, including time for academic support, healthy nutrition and fitness, and enrichment activities.

  • Foster relationships with community organizations, volunteers, and external partnerships to strengthen authentic academic and enrichment opportunities.

  • Create and communicate safe systems for student pickup at the close of Extended Day Program.

Collaborate Effectively across various School Teams

  • The Extended Day Program Coordinator will collaborate with a variety of personnel and teams across Lodestar.  This includes, but is not limited to the following:

    • Lodestar Leadership Team

    • Lodestar Teachers and Instructional Aides

    • Administrative Staff

    • Finance and Operations Team

    • External partners

    • Lighthouse After School Program (ASP) Team

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • AA or equivalent required, B.A. or B.S. preferred

  • 3+ years experience serving urban youth preferred

  • Experience supervising or managing a program or staff preferred

  • Experience working in a progressive and personalized school model a plus

  • Experience with one or more of the following: project-based learning, interdisciplinary curriculum, Common-Core, restorative justice, responsive classroom, making and the arts, small group intervention, and service learning.

  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus

 

Time Commitment

This is a full time, exempt position. This position is expected to maintain daily hours (M-F) from 10:00am-6:00pm, with time embedded for planning/collaboration and breaks.  This position would begin 7/1/2018.

Supervision

This position reports to: Director of Expanded Learning Programs and Lodestar K-8 Principal.

Compensation

Commensurate with experience.
