Description:

The Principal RF Engineer will work on a variety of exciting and novel RF projects, including Kumu’s core technology (analog self-interference cancellation) as well as sub-6GHz discrete RF transceiver systems. Responsibilities include designing, testing, and optimizing RF systems from scratch as well as transitioning systems from prototype to production. The ideal candidate will have excellent fundamentals and understand the mechanics behind how and why RF circuits work, as well as possess the creativity to use standard components in nontraditional and innovative ways. They will work with a team of RF/HW engineers as well as systems engineers to develop novel, full-duplex communication systems.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in systems design / functional requirements and specifications for new RF transceivers and other RF systems as related to Kumu's core technology
  • Design high-performance RF transceivers, starting from design requirements (based upon published specifications), up through Cascade Analysis, component selection, schematic design, layout, and test.
  • Perform/Oversee testing on new designs to ensure requirements such as gain, noise figure, 1db compression point, distortion limits, and impedance matching are met
  • Prepare and release designs for manufacturing of both prototype and production parts, and support products through UL/FCC/ETSI testing
  • Work with software team to specify transceiver control requirements.

Requirements:

  •  10+ years experience in hands-on design of complex RF transceivers in the sub-6Ghz range, using a variety of architectures (direct, superhet, etc.) with extreme inter-circuit isolation requirements
  • Design experience with discrete, infrastructure transceiver systems for WiMax, LTE, CDMA, or GSM, with the demonstrated ability to derive requirements from protocol specifications,.
  • Experience in printed circuit design for couplers, coupled line filters, and other RF components
  • Comfortable in ADS and other RF simulation packages, as well as schematic entry tools like Cadence OrCad
  • Comfortable with lab equipment and setting up tests using signal analyzers, generators, VNAs, etc.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience beyond 6GHz, up through mmW
  • Experience with RFIC design
  • Experience in bringing high volume RF/mmW products from design to production
