Committed to helping young innovators build their creative confidence and problem-solving skills, we offer kids a delightful, engaging way to explore, create, and learn. Our core offering is a subscription service that delivers curated hands-on projects to kids ages 0-16+. We take great pride and ownership in the products we build and in the community of parents and kids we serve. We’re backed by leading investors, and we were named one of the “20 Startups to Watch” by Business Insider. Our offices are located in Los Altos.

Role

KiwiCo is seeking writers with a focus on early childhood development to work with us on a part-time contract basis (remote is ok) to help us develop educational materials for our hands-on activity kits. We’re looking for people who are passionate about education and are excited to help inspire curiosity and creativity in our young customers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Researching the child development and early learning concepts behind our projects and working with subject matter experts to ensure the educational materials are complete and accurate.

  • Writing parent-friendly articles explaining the crate concepts in a way that’s both engaging and interesting.

  • Pitching, researching, and writing articles on related parenting, early science, early math, and language & literacy topics that provide a deeper understanding for how to use crate products.

Required Qualifications

Since this position is remote, candidates must be comfortable communicating and collaborating with a team over chat, email, and video calls. We seek team players with an infectious positive energy, great initiative, and a get-it-done attitude. Candidates must thrive in ambiguity and love a rapid pace.  You must have a strong desire to learn and improve.

Required skills and responsibilities:

  • Background and experience. Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of writing and editing experience. You have excellent writing and editing skills, with direct experience in child development and/or early learning communication for parents and/or caregivers. Experience writing for parents and/or caregivers is a plus.

  • Passionate about early childhood education and parenting. You love our young customers and understand how to communicate enriching educational concepts in a fun and relatable way for their parents. You’re always excited to learn something new, and you love geeking out over cool science stuff and finding cool parenting hacks.

  • Detail-oriented. Exceptional attention to detail, grammar, and logical story construction, with an eye for working with visual designers.

  • Resourceful and Flexible.  You see a project from idea stage through successful completion and do whatever it takes to make it a success.

  • Collaborative.  Able to give and receive feedback well.

In addition to your resume, please include a cover letter highlighting your background and describing your interest in the position. If possible, please also include a link to samples of your writing.
