The Technical Illustrator role at Kiwi Crate brings our brands (Kiwi Crate, Koala Crate, Doodle Crate, and Tinker Crate) to life and plays a key role in shaping the consumer’s view of the company. It’s a rich and rewarding position that directly shapes our customers’ impressions and engages our young customers.
Create technical illustrations for step-by-step instructions across our four brands. Must have strong perspective skills while still maintaining a kid-friendly style in Adobe Illustrator.
Incorporate editorial feedback on your illustrations from our user testing to ensure customer success.
Work closely with our in-house illustration team to ensure that style and editorial guidelines are followed.
Collaborate closely with the editorial and product design teams to ensure that the illustrations are as accurate and clear as possible.
This is a part-time contract role. You must live in the Bay Area and be available to come into our Los Altos office as needed to facilitate collaboration with the team.

The ideal candidate has great initiative and operating range. Required skills and responsibilities:
Experience. Bachelor’s degree with 1-3 years of technical illustration experience with demonstrated creative successes. Proficient in Illustrator.
Passionate about illustration. A strong understanding of effective visual communication and what will make sense to a reader. Strong design and art skills, with very strong perspective skills. Able to flex between a variety of styles.
Passionate about customers. You love our customers and understand how to design and develop illustrations for a fun and enriching set of projects and materials that ensure success for kids and for parents.
Collaborative. Ability to work well within cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization. A positive force on the team who can bring our product to the next level. Excellent communication skills.
Hands-on, “get things done” mentality. Self-starter with the ability to prioritize in a fast paced environment and meet changing deadlines and priorities on multiple simultaneous projects. Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines while still paying attention to details and executing flawlessly. Strong project management skills.
Resourceful. You see a project from idea stage through successful completion, and do whatever it takes to make it a success. You are an innovative thinker, can solve problems creatively, and thrive in a fast-paced, small company environment. Able to problem-solve illustration problems and recommend a better angle or progression of steps, while keeping in mind the needs of the editorial and product design teams.
Detail-oriented. We move quickly, but we bring care and thoughtfulness to everything we do. We care deeply about the details. This role needs an illustrator who can bring that eye for detail to our visual style and make sure every illustration meets our standards.
