We offer kids a delightful, engaging way to explore, create, and learn; and arm them with the creative confidence and tools to change the world. Our core offering is a subscription service that delivers hands-on projects to kids of all ages. We also have an online store and a content hub for families. We take great pride and ownership in the products and experiences we design and in the community of parents and kids we serve. Our office is located in Mountain View, within walking distance to the Caltrain station. Currently, we are working remotely. As guidelines permit, we will move to our plan of hybrid, remote/in-office work.

Role and Responsibilities:

We are looking for a self-motivated and solutions driven People Operations Manager with a passion for creating great people experiences to champion KiwiCo’s company culture and provide best-in-class internal and external support. This role will encompass a wide range of responsibilities spanning people operations, recruiting and hiring and HR-management. The ideal candidate will weave our company culture into our people programs and use data to make decisions about how best to support and scale our growing team!

  • Develop, improve and administer various People Operations policies, processes and procedures and communicate the necessary changes in partnership with the leadership team.

  • Serve as the first point of contact and coach for managers, and be a trusted advisor to employees at all levels. Ensure we are handling employee relations with kindness, care, discretion, and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations as the internal subject matter expert on all things HR.

  • Invest in collecting and leveraging people-related data to drive impact; define and track key metrics to measure employee satisfaction, engagement, performance, and retention, and use data to inform program changes.

  • Maintain operational excellence related to onboarding, offboarding, engagement, training and development, benefits and compliance.

  • Lead company recruiting initiatives of growing scope and complexity, set strategies, develop and expand on diversity initiatives while leveraging resources to support KiwiCo’s growing business.

  • Identify and implement efficient and effective recruiting methods and strategies based on the available role, industry standards, and the needs of the organization in order to recruit top talent.

  • Recruit and perform talent acquisition activities such as resume & phone screens, email correspondence, calendar scheduling, and interviews. Maintain all pertinent applicant and interview data in the Applicant Tracking System (ATS).

  • Communicate with managers and employees regularly to establish rapport, gauge morale, and source new candidate leads. Conduct regular follow-up with managers to determine the effectiveness of recruiting plans and implementation.

  • Stay up-to-date on laws and regulations related to human resources and compliance and inform managers.

  • Lead and drive process and program improvements. Maintain close relationships with our employees and teams to understand pain-points and opportunities, and translate them into initiatives that improve processes and systems.

  • Experience. 3-5+ years of experience in People Operations or Human Resources team within a high-growth environment.

  • Passionate about customers (internal and external). You are a strong, thoughtful communicator with the ability to interface well with many different personalities, and have effective relationship building skills. You excel at developing relationships across groups and functions at all levels of the organization including senior leadership.

  • Hands-on, “get things done” mentality. You are eager to learn and grow with our People Ops team as we scale to support a rapidly growing organization. Ability to multitask and meet deadlines while still paying attention to details and executing flawlessly.

  • Resourceful. You see a project from idea stage through successful completion - and do whatever it takes to make it a success. You are an innovative thinker and can solve problems creatively.  

  • Detail-oriented. We move quickly, but we bring care and thoughtfulness to everything we do. We care deeply about the details.

  • Collaborative. Ability to work well within cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization. A positive force on the team who can bring KiwiCo’s employee experience to the next level.

  • Impeccable discretion. You are able to act in an ethical manner and maintain highly confidential and sensitive information that impacts employees and the business.


Desired Qualifications

  • Have a broad knowledge of human resources functions: hiring, onboarding, benefits, training and development, employee engagement and performance evaluation.

  • Proven success in assessing, creating, and implementing innovative solutions to increase engagement, retention, and team development.

  • Proficiency in HR technology (HRIS and ATS systems, Performance Management Tools, Survey Platforms etc.).

  • Understanding of and commitment to inclusive and equitable design for people operations, processes, policies, and communications.

  • Ability to design and manage complex projects end-to-end, including the ability to define objectives, create clear project plans, manage key stakeholders, track progress against deadlines, troubleshoot as needed, and roll out company-wide communications.

  • Phenomenal project management and organizational skills, including the ability to effectively manage numerous concurrent projects and tasks in a fast-paced and rapidly growing environment.

  • Well rounded recruiting/sourcing expertise; experience with (phone and in-person) interviews, candidate screening and evaluation.

  • Strong analytical skills; including the ability to collect and analyze data from surveys, ATS, employee benefits and performance management tools to make informed decisions.

  • Excellent judgment, strong communications skills, and proven ability to navigate sensitive employee concerns with care; experience in handling a wide range of HR questions and interpersonal situations.

  • Proficiency in Google Suite and using the tools to create presentations and build dashboards.


  • Understands importance of building diverse top of funnel pipelines and can talk to examples of doing this effectively.

  • Developed and executed targeted sourcing strategies such as paid posting, social media, college recruiting and recruiting agencies/services.

  • Familiarity with Immigration and Visa Sponsorship policies and processes.
