Job Description

About Us

KiwiCo  is an innovative eCommerce company that sparks kids’ creativity and curiosity through offline and online materials and inspiration. We offer kids a delightful, engaging way to explore, create, and learn; and arm them with the creative confidence and tools to change the world. Our core offering is a subscription service that delivers hands-on projects to kids of all ages. We also have an online store and a content hub for families. We take great pride and ownership in the products and experiences we design and in the community of parents and kids we serve. Our office is located in Mountain View, within walking distance to the Caltrain station. Currently, we are working remotely. As guidelines permit, we will move to our plan of hybrid, remote/in-office work.

Role and Responsibilities:

KiwiCo is seeking an Editor / Writer to take on the responsibility for creating instructional and educational content for our hands-on projects, with a focus on fun, inspiring, enriching STEAM topics for kids.

We are looking for an experienced writer and content creator who is passionate about delivering excellent, engaging pieces for kids. You have the ability to distill complex topics into clear and engaging text, a deep understanding of how visuals and copy come together to make a piece cohesive, and a laser focus on deadlines. In this role, you will:

  • Lead the creation of instructions, articles, and printed or online activities that support brand values and business goals, working closely and collaboratively with product designers and visual designers.

  • Define, manage, and write enriching content for kids ages 5 and up that inspires a sense of wonder and excitement about STEAM topics.

  • Move editorial pieces through our production process. Ensure deadlines are met and guidelines and standards are followed.

Required Qualifications

As a start-up celebrating creativity and learning, we believe and encourage the same in our team. We seek team players with an infectious positive energy, great initiative, and a get-it-done attitude. Required skills and qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years experience in writing / content creation in a professional context, with a background in writing compelling user-facing content.

  • Direct experience writing for or working with children.

  • A demonstrated ability to research and translate complex concepts into engaging and accessible content.

  • Strong project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. You have experience working on multiple pieces simultaneously while maintaining tone, voice, and quality.

  • Great communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally on creative projects. You are able to give and respond to feedback well, with experience moving projects through multiple iterations.

  • A passion for creating experiences for kids and families that are educational, engaging, and, above all, fun!

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in education, formal or informal.

  • Experience in an entrepreneurial startup environment.

  • Experience with children’s consumer products.

If you’re passionate about delivering innovative, delightful, and enriching products and experiences for kids, we’d love to hear from you. Please apply by submitting a resume and cover letter telling us why you're interested in KiwiCo and what you think you'd bring to this specific position and our team. With your application, please also submit a few portfolio samples that demonstrate your skills, at least one of which must be written for a young audience. Applications without samples will not be considered. Please note that this role is not eligible for full-time remote work.
