KiwiCo is an innovative eCommerce company that sparks kids’ creativity and curiosity through offline and online materials and inspiration. We offer kids a delightful, engaging way to explore, create, and learn; and arm them with the creative confidence and tools to change the world. Our core offering is a subscription service that delivers hands-on projects to kids of all ages. We also have an online store and a content hub for families. We take great pride and ownership in the products and experiences we design and in the community of parents and kids we serve. Our office is located in Mountain View, within walking distance to the Caltrain station. Our offices are located in Mountain View, CA. Currently, we are working remotely. As guidelines permit, we will move to our plan of hybrid, remote/in-office work.


Role and Responsibilities:

KiwiCo is seeking an experienced Editor to take on the responsibility for creating, editing, and managing a variety of KiwiCo branded books.  We are looking for an Editor who is passionate about delivering high-quality, engaging, and thoughtful content for kids and families. You have the ability to manage complex workflows, a deep understanding of how visuals and text come together to make a piece cohesive, and a laser focus on deadlines. In this role, you will:


  • Lead the creation of a variety of different types of book formats, that support brand values and business goals, working closely and collaboratively with the editorial, graphic design, and sourcing teams.

  • Review and revise concepts, outlines, and manuscripts

  • Brainstorm ideas for new book concepts

  • Coordinate and regulate all phases of the book production process, including copyediting/proofreading and art and proof reviewing.

  • Hire and supervise contract authors as needed, providing detailed guidance and structured feedback.  

  • Communicate project details to all cross-functional teams - graphic design, sourcing, marketing, photography, store, serving as a true project manager.

  • Move editorial pieces through our production process. Ensure deadlines are met and guidelines and standards are followed.


Required Qualifications

You must have a strong desire to learn and improve, with excellent organizational and communication skills. Required skills and qualifications include:


  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience in children’s editorial. You have excellent writing and editing skills, with the experience and skills required to work in a fast-paced editorial production environment.

  • Educational publishing experience and familiarity with baby/preschool or  early elementary-through-high school curriculum preferred.  

  • Experience working within a brand style, with the ability to consistently deliver clean, polished copy efficiently.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, grammar, and logical story construction, with an eye for visual communication and photography.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally on creative projects. Able to give and receive feedback well.

  • Strong project management skills. You are a self-starter with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines on multiple simultaneous projects. 

  • You are flexible and creative, with the ability to see a project from idea stage through completion. You are an innovative thinker and can solve problems creatively. 


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in education, formal or informal.

  • Experience in an entrepreneurial startup environment.

  • Experience with children’s consumer products.
