Data Analyst

Job Description

Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Director of Quality and Corporate Compliance, the Data Analyst is responsible for maintaining and improving existing data systems; developing new analysis of data; monitoring performance of the existing data systems; and will be responsible for seeking new data sets and integrating them with the existing systems. The Data Analyst is responsible for producing reports on clinical performance measures, focused studies, and resource utilization in a manner which translates most effectively into information for decision-making toward improved clinical care processes and clinical, service, and financial outcomes. The Data Analyst will gather and analyze data from a variety of internal and external sources to create dashboards, extract trends, and provide insights for quality improvement. The Data Analyst will verify accuracy of data and combine data elements into well-arranged and formatted reports which are easy for users to understand and which focus attention on key information while providing necessary explanations. The Data Analyst will work with internal and external teams to improve clinical quality, improve patient safety, and streamline operations.

Education: Minimum Associate's Degree in healthcare field or equivalent, preferably in Health Information Management. Bachelor of Science Degree in information technology, statistics, mathematics, health sciences, or related field preferred. Prefer RN/LPN. Relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.

Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience in data processes and standards, preferably in a healthcare setting

Licensure, Registry or Certification Required: NC driver’s license

Special Training: Ability to work in a collaborative environment and communicate effectively in both written and oral format. Expertise with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, and database reporting applications such as Tableau. Strong analytical skills and ability to think critically about data for creative problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with Team Members to improve clinical quality, improve patient safety, and streamline healthcare operations through data analysis.

  • Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets to inform appropriate team members of pertinent information and insight so that business/operational decisions can be prioritized. Locates and defines new process improvement opportunities.

  • Assists with the development and/or maintenance of Policies & Procedures related to the data collection/analysis process.

  • Manages key data sources and data applications. Filters and "cleans" data by reviewing computer reports and performance indicators.

  • Ensures the integrity of project data by monitoring and validating the extraction, processing, storage, and manipulation of the information.

  • Develops, implements, maintains, and supports data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize efficiency and quality of data being collected.

  • Acquires data from primary or secondary data sources including the electronic health record and maintains data systems to reorganize in a format that can be easily read.

  • Conducts research or gathers data as directed by Director of Quality & Corporate Compliance and Quality Coordinator. Then, translates data into information that can be used to identify opportunities for continuous quality improvement as requested.

  • Collects, mines and analyzes data elements and sources to support various initiatives throughout the organization to include financial and clinical information.

  • Interprets data and analyzes results. Develops and prepares clear and concise data reports and/or dashboards for leadership and others as required as directed by Director of Quality & Corporate Compliance and Quality Coordinator.
