Job Description

Job Summary

King is currently looking for a Program Manager to join its growing team and senior staff. The program manager will report directly to the President and COO of the company and manage a team of 25+ coaches and 20+ existing programs in NYC area schools. The Program Manager will be the point of contact at our existing school programs, working closely with coaches and the schools to ensure programs are running effectively. In addition, the Program Manager will have full responsibility and accountability of the coaching staff, work to hire talented young coaches, and develop a sense of team camaraderie and community among the coaches. In addition to managing existing school programs, the Program Manager will assist in marketing efforts and development for new programs in NYC schools and targeted neighborhoods. During summer months, the Program Manager will act as Camp Director at one of our summer camp locations.

Responsibilities and Duties

Key Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):

  • Act as liaison between schools and Kids in the Game staff
  • Manage 20+ existing programs in NYC schools (all boroughs, except Staten Island); coordinate with school administration and KinG coaches, as well as visit schools to ensure programs are successful
  • Manage and schedule 25+ coaches on KinG staff working at existing programs
  • Coach 10-15 hours per week at specialized and high-priority programs
  • Organize and lead staff trainings
  • Seek and interview prospective coaches
  • Assist in marketing efforts for new programs, camps, and clinics – meet with prospective schools to discuss program options, and implement new programs thereafter
  • Act as director of 6-10 week summer camp in June-Augus

Qualifications and Skills

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year university; advanced degree a plus 2+ years experience working with children and/or sports, music, dance; experience managing a team a plus
  • Spanish speaking is preferred, but not required
  • Former college athlete or coach preferred, but not required


  • Demonstrated experience leading groups of children with the ability to engage and inspire youth
  • Experience managing a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively to senior staff and administrations at schools
  • Experience working with small and large groups of children
  • Motivated self-starter with clear and open communication skills
  • Experience interacting with diverse communities
  • Knowledge of computer and internet based programs for use in communication
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to work in an organized yet flexible manner – team does not work out of central office and spends 80%+ of its time traveling around NYC to visit new/existing schools
  • A team player and shows a willingness to learn

Special Certification, Training or Experience:

  • CPR for the professional rescuer, or ability to obtain within the first month of hire date
  • First Aid Certification, or ability to obtain within the first month of hire date

Other Requirements:

  • Must pass pre-employment criminal and sexual offender background check, including fingerprints, and have the ability to work unsupervised in the presence of children and adults

Working Conditions

  • Program Managers work a standard work week but must be available to work some evenings and Saturdays
