Janrain is growing its engineering team and looking for an experienced Scrum Master to join our team.

Janrain Engineering utilizes Agile methodologies with an emphasis on Scrum. All development teams are cross functional and include roles across the whole stack.  While each team member may be an expert in a specific area, they will also be responsible for working in other areas that may or may not be their expert area. These roles include architecture, design, development, ops, test, documentation, and support for other teams or groups within the company as well as our customers.

The Scrum Master position at Janrain will lead self organizing teams within a well-defined software development life cycle process. This includes Agile Scrum based software development, software technical project management, requirements traceability, and traditional Agile Scrum rituals. A Key requirement of this position is to manage and report on metrics used to track process improvement and health in Janrain’s continuous improvement culture.


  • Guide and coach Development Teams,  Product Owners, and Stakeholders on Agile/Scrum practices

  • Guide and coach teams to continue to be self-organized

  • Help teams assess their ‘Scrum Maturity’ and higher levels of maturity

  • Improve transparency within the team

  • Remove impediments

  • Build a safe and trusting environment where conflicts can be managed in a healthy way without fear of blame

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent education and/or experience
  • 2+ years experience in a Scrum Master role for for a software development team

  • First level Scrum Master certification (PSM I, CSM)

  • Good skills and knowledge of facilitation, continuous improvement, empowerment, transparency and leadership

  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies  – Kanban, Scrum, etc.

  • Knowledge and experience with Agile practices – Automated Testing, User Stories, TDD, Continuous Integration, Testing, Pairing, Agile Games, etc.

  • Previous experience as a collaborative leader

  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills

  • Knowledge of project management principles and the ability to apply them to software development

Bonus Points:

  • Track record of continued and recent education in Scrum, including training, conferences, user groups, self study, etc.

  • Knowledge of other approaches discussed in the Agile space: XP, Kanban, Nexus, LeSS, SAFe, Crystal, FDD, etc

  • Experience using JIRA for issue tracking
