Freelance Event/Engagement Manager [Civics Essential]

Job Description

The event/engagement manager will work closely with the Freshwater and Soapbox team for the Civics Essential series across the state of Ohio. The event/engagement manager will work closely with the project editor and Issue Media Group team to ensure the success of this 1-year project.

The event/engagement manager will be responsible for helping to plan and manage events as well as developing relationships with community partners in the cities targeted under the program that will aid the program in creating long-lasting partnerships for the series. Additionally, the event/engagement manager will post social media updates on a weekly basis to Freshwater and Soapbox’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Responsibilities for the event/engagement manager include:

Event Planning

The project will host one county event at public libraries in (16) Ohio counties to encourage dialogue amongst the community around basic civics in year one.

  • Collaborate with project team to develop event programming

  • Develop brief for event strategy that outlines goals, format, target audience and desired outcomes

  • The event will be scalable and offered as a ‘packaged’ event for participating libraries

  • Locations and dates at participating libraries to be determined in two condensed time periods (October-November) and (February-April)

  • Manage event budget and oversee all event logistics with support from the project team

  • Maintain a presence in person and on social media at all project or community events agreed upon by the team

  • Establish and manage Eventbrite page for each event

 

Social Media

  • Develop a comprehensive social media strategy for the project

  • Maintain regular, predictable social media presence on brand’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

  • Create Civics Essential content across platforms to maximize impact and reach (approximately 10 pieces of original content for the duration of project)

  • Social media boosted posts and promotion experience is considered a ‘plus’

  • Target and grow an audience of engaged readers and followers

 

Community Engagement

  • Engage with community members and develop relationships with them

  • Send over possible editorial contacts that can be used for story ideas

 

Administration

  • Participate in weekly project meetings

  • Manage engagement budget, track expenses and provide reporting

  • Provide regular social media analytics

Qualifications

  • Willingness to travel across the state of Ohio

  • Experience developing and managing a social media strategy for a brand or project

  • 2-3 years experience coordinating events

  • Experience in community engagement or organizing, especially in a journalistic or reporting context
