Software Engineering - Team Lead

Engineering | San Francisco, CA | Full Time

Job Description

Software Engineering - Team Lead

Do you love working in a small, tight-knit company?

Do you like helping your coworkers grow as people and professionals?

Do you want to work on hard problems?

Are you a strong communicator with a penchant for building consensus?

If any of these strike your fancy, then you might be just the person for a job at iOffer.

What you'll do

As the Team Lead for the Engineering team, you will split your time about 50/50 between coding and performing team lead duties. You'll report directly to the CTO.

A typical week might include:

  • Writing code and tests for new features or squashing bugs

  • Reviewing code and pull requests

  • Handling the flow of features and bug fixes from dev to production

  • Brainstorming solutions to tricky problems with the team

  • Mentoring other team members

  • Leading engineering team meetings and sprint planning meetings

  • Planning the product roadmap in conjunction with the CTO and other members of the product team

  • Working with the Ops team to ensure the app is reliable, fast, and easy to deploy

  • Participating in the on-call rotation along with the rest of Engineering and Operations

Some of the projects you can expect in your first 90 days:

  • Help us determine the skillsets we need to grow the engineering team.

  • Architect and lead the way for a Rails 2.3 -> Rail 5.x migration

  • Clear the backlog of open pull requests for our app

We'll be following your lead on what needs done in the app. If you think something needs doing, it will be your job to make the case for it and guide your team on shipping it.

You may be a good fit for this role if:

  • You are a senior engineer wanting to get your foot in the door into a leadership role while still contributing code regularly.

  • You have experience with Rails, MySQL, and basic frontend development (HTML/CSS/Javascript)

  • You love teamwork and working closely with other people

  • You value simplicity over cleverness in code

  • You value writing tests and consistency with style guides

  • You love teaching and mentoring other engineers

  • Major bonus points if you've ever worked on a major Rails version upgrade project
