Special Projects Manager 2 – Environmental Care Coordinator

Bethesda, Maryland

Seeking to fill a full-time Special Projects Manager 2 opening with Federal Occupational Health (FOH) in Bethesda, MD.  FOH is a non-appropriated agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that provides occupational health and wellness services exclusively to federal employees. This position works under the supervision of the agency’s Chief of Staff and provides leadership to the FOH Environmental Care Program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master of Public Health or equivalent degree.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC).
  • Competency in program development/implementation/evaluation skills, policy and procedure development skills/experience.
  • Advanced Project Manager skills and experience.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in occupational health preferred.
  • Willingness to travel.

Specific Tasks

  • Participates in annual policy reviews.
  • Identifies needs for new Environment of Care (EOC) and Safety policies, SOPs or LOPs.
  • Drafts EOC and Safety polices, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and competencies
  • Implementation of designated operational tasks, which could be short or long-term projects. 
  • Works under the Deputy Medical Director/Acting Director Clinical Health Services.
  • May work with COTR, Clinical Council, Operations or Program Managers.
  • Facilitates or manages all phases of various projects including but not limited to initiating, planning, controlling, executing, and finalizing projects. 
  • Assists with the research of information pertinent to the project. 
  • Assists with the development of realistic schedules with measurable tasks to ensure the project stays on task.
  • Assists with operations to ensure the project stays on task. 
  • Assists with training team members and others when needed in project related issues.
  • Helps to monitor identified timelines, budget and resource allocation or course correct to ensure project outcomes are met. 
  • Write reports.  Examples of projects could include but are not limited to:  coordinating with facilities team, to support operational functions of FOHS OHCs.
  • Assisting with FOHS conference coordination and planning; coordinating with orientation teams to revise/update orientation tools, management, and facilitation of background investigation.
  • Intervenes whenever environmental conditions pose an immediate threat to life, an immediate threat to health, or pose a threat of damage to equipment or buildings.
  • Chairs the Environment of Care Committee (EOC-COM).
  • Manages risk and coordinates risk reduction activities that impact sites across the FOH occupational health provision network.
  • Oversees the identification, collection, and mitigation of Environment of Care (EOC) incidents including deficiencies, problems, failures, user errors, near misses, sentinel events, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Manages, evaluates, and maintains the FOH Environment of Care Master Plan.
  • Plans, directs, implements, coordinates, and improves the organization's performance of the EOC related activities.
  • Identifies, understands, and interprets The   Joint   Commission, requirements which apply to the Environment of Care and Emergency Management.
  • Evaluates and assess the existing conditions, operations, and practices at FOH to determine the impact of and general compliance with the Joint Commissions, Environment of Care Standards.
  • Identifies and generates improvement opportunities and process changes to facilitate performance improvement of the safety, security, and comfort of patients and the care environment.
  • Works in a multidisciplinary setting to conduct risk assessments related to the Environment of Care.
  • Develops performance improvement evaluation criteria and collects performance improvement data to identify the priority of performance improvements and process changes.
  • Coordinates and facilitates all performance improvement initiatives related to the Environment of Care.
  • Standing member of the FOH Quality, Safety, and Risk Management Committee (Q-COM) and the Equipment Committee (E-COM); Provides quarterly program reports to the FOH Governing Board.
