Job Description

Environment of Care Safety Officer

InGenesis, Inc. is seeking to fill a full-time Environment of Care Safety Officer opening with Federal Occupational Health (FOH) in Bethesda, MD.  FOH is a non-appropriated agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that provides occupational health and wellness services exclusively to federal employees. The Environment of Care Safety Officer works closely with the Chief Clinical Services (CCS) to provide oversight and guidance for Clinical Health Services in the areas of:  Environment of Care, Safety, Security, Hazardous Materials/Waste, Fire Safety (Life Safety) and Emergency Management. 

 

Minimum Requirements/Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of healthcare administration of multi-site health care system
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Federal Occupational Health (FOH) policies and procedures and any changes and updates
  • Comprehensive knowledge of TJC Ambulatory Care Standards
  • Demonstrates subject matter expertise in the provision and systemic management of all occupational health services provided in FOH clinics.  Anticipates and addresses potential problems with service delivery.
  • Experience within the last 5 years working in an accredited organization
  • Program Development, implementation and evaluation training experience
  • Microsoft Office software with high proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.  Project and Visio Plus
  • Subject matter expert of  operations of health care clinics, preferably occupational health clinics
  • Excellent writing skills with experience in drafting operational policies and procedures
  • Experience with monitoring and evaluating clinical systems including developing indicators, data collection instruments, compiling data, analyzing data, and creating monitoring and evaluation reports
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Must demonstrate an ability to successfully engage a diverse group of people
  • Must have good organizational, problem solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to demonstrate organizational and political savvy

           

Minimum Education Requirements/Certification/Licensure/Experience:

  • Masters of Public Health or equivalent
  • Must possess BSN.  Must have current license in one of the 50 states
  • Graduate from a National League of Nursing (NLN) accredited school of nursing (BSN)
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in occupational health; COHN or COHN-S required
  • Strong understanding and background in TJC Environment of Care and Safety
  • Current CPR/AED for Health Care Professionals certification

 

Specific Tasks: 

  • Provides leadership for the FOH Environment of Care Program
  • Responsible for ensuring that all clinic operations comply with TJC standards
  • Participates in annual policy reviews and makes recommendations for changes and updates
  • Identifies needs for new Environment of Care and Safety policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs) or local operating procedures (LOPs)
  • Drafts EC and Safety polices, SOPs and competencies
  • Develops necessary training or communication tools to ensure understanding of all policies and SOPs
  • Implementation of designated operational tasks, which could be short or long term projects
  • Performs and oversees performance improvement/quality site visits, and reports deficiencies to Deputy Medial Director and Chief Clinic Services, with plan for correction regarding EC and Safety issues
  • Utilities Management to include:  evaluation of emergency power and utility failure contingency 
  • Assists in the performance of clinic on-site inspections using FOH's TJC inspection tool
  • Reviews all safety events the focus on EC and Safety issues and completes appropriate corrective action/follow up to events. Oversees the identification, collection and mitigation of EC incidents including:  deficiencies, problems, failures, user errors, near misses, sentinel events and opportunities for improvement.  Provides report to Risk Manager
  • Participation in performance improvement initiatives as directed by CCS and in collaboration with Office of Policy, Analysis, and Quality
  • Prepares Intra-Cycle Monitoring and National Quality Indicator reports as directed by the CCS
  • Act as a Liaison with TJC as directed by CCS
  • Identifies customer needs and provides solutions as directed by the CCS
  • Assists in preparation of customer satisfaction survey (ES and Safety Data) in a summary report for the CCS
  • Collects and aggregates EC and Safety data for customer satisfaction surveys from the clinics
  • Actively promotes the full scope of FOH services provided through CHS and cross sell FOH’s other available products and services
