Research Nurse

Job Description

InGenesis, Inc. is seeking a highly qualified and talented Research Nurse to work at our client site the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. This is a full-time position with benefits. Hours are Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with current state nursing licensure.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience.
  • Experience in clinical research setting with protocols and clinical trials.
  • Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.



  • Provide leadership to promote clinical excellence.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of professional health care practices of neurology, surgery, and medicine, experimental therapies and professional health care practices, the biomedical research process, support of patients on biomedical research protocols, and awareness of ethical issues.
  • Administer research interventions; collect patient data according to protocol specifications; evaluate patient’s response to therapy; respond to variances in protocol implementation and report them to research team.
  • Obtain confirmed informed consent/assent prior to the beginning of any studies or therapies.
  • Collect and record research information from the patient and the patient database during inpatient and outpatient visits.
  • Manage conflicts/issues that arise in clinical research setting.
  • Assess patient and families to ensure ongoing understanding of the research process; provide verbal responses to patient and family inquiries about protocols during the non-hospitalized period.
  • Respond to incoming patient-related inquiries from the general public and other health care professionals, regarding clinical research protocols.
  • Perform problems-solving of complex and/or unpredictable situations by improved processes and services to patients.
  • Prepare clinical laboratory and diagnostic test results in a format consistent with the needs of the protocol and the investigator.
  • Contribute to the interdisciplinary team as evidenced by actively participating in patient rounds and protocol meetings, assessing patient care needs, thoroughly communicating the plan of care and the patient’s response to care.
  • Provide education to patients and significant others as evidenced by: individualized teaching, use of available resources and modifying methods to achieve the highest level of learning.
  • Advocate for patients and families and support patients’ rights.
  • Contribute to the identification of learning needs for the practice environment and provide learning opportunities for others.
  • Explore research issues and communicate with the interdisciplinary team at ad hoc and standardized meetings.
  • Contribute to teams, workgroup processes; provide substantive outcomes; complete assignments within established time frames.
