Patient Services Representative I - (13272)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Patient Services Representative I to join our team at UT Health RGV. The ideal candidate will be responsible for greeting and registering patients, handling incoming calls, scheduling appointments, and managing patient queries. This role requires accurate collection of insurance information and time-of-service collections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing high-level customer service.
  • Accurately register patients, ensuring confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel patient appointments to optimize clinic efficiency.
  • Answer incoming calls professionally and promptly, addressing caller needs.
  • Perform reminder calls and greet patients and visitors, addressing concerns and promoting quality care.
  • Check-in and check-out patients, verify insurance eligibility, and ensure accurate registration forms.
  • Conduct daily reconciliation tasks, including chart preparation, deposit reconciliation, and charge entry.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality across all communication channels.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, obtain prior authorizations, and manage necessary documentation.
  • Collect copays, deductibles, and outstanding balances, and educate patients on billing processes.
  • Establish payment plans and refer patients to Financial Counselors when appropriate.
  • Answer frequently asked questions and escalate concerns as needed.
  • Demonstrate respectful and professional behavior, supporting UT Health RGV’s mission and values.
  • Provide coverage at various clinical sites as needed.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of medical front-office or receptionist experience in patient registration, scheduling, customer service, or insurance verification and eligibility, or two (2) years of direct customer service.
  • Proficient in using standard office equipment and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to navigate an EMR system.

Preferred: Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with insurance verification and eligibility in a high-volume healthcare setting.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish).
  • Completion of Medical Office Specialist certificate program or Medical Administrative Assistant or closely related.

Working Conditions:

  • Office/Clinical Environment; some travel and weekend work may be required.
  • May be exposed to airborne illnesses.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods and exert up to 20 pounds of force frequency.
