Patient Access Specialist
Work Location: Houston TX

Job Summary/Description
Facilitates access to MD Anderson Cancer Center services for new and returning patients. Impacts patient medical and financial clearance across a continuum of care served by one or more designated care centers.

Job Duties/Responsibilities/Functions (including but not limited to)
• Utilizes medical acceptance criteria to screen and schedule appointments for new patients.
• Provides financial counseling options to patients including cost estimates, payment plans, discounts and supplemental financial assistance; utilizing medical overrides and account reviews as appropriate.
• Collects financial data during intake process to ensure appropriate financial screening of new patients and verifies data during new patient registration to ensure compliance with required forms and consents.
• Obtains insurance information, verifies benefits and secures authorizations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Prefer an Associate's degree in business, healthcare or related field.
• Three (3) years’ experience in healthcare, insurance or related field. With preferred degree, one year of required experience.
• Prefer Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) or Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM) by the National Association of Healthcare Access Management.
