Job Description
Medical Laboratory Technician
Work Location: Fayetteville, NC

Job Duties/Responsibilities/Functions (including but not limited to)
• Perform quality control check on equipment and reagents
• Determine whether donors meet acceptable criteria for hemoglobin using validated methods
• Assess donor temperature and blood pressure and annotate on DD572 Donor Records
• Perform donor interview and determine donor eligibility
• Perform phlebotomy using standard blood bags
• Collect pilot tubes for donor testing after phlebotomy using the sampling device on the blood bag.3.1.10. Weigh and prepare the units after collection for component processing.3.1.11 Prepare components from whole blood
• Label and ship blood and blood components
• Set up mobile collection sites and tear down the mobile collection sites at the completion of blood drives
• Review donor cards for completeness and determine donor eligibility
• Segment collected donor units
• Recognize and initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations (donor reactions)
• Properly process and ship required tubes for testing to the designated testing center. Properly ship blood products from mobile collection sites to the processing facility (Blood Donor Center)
• Perform donor apheresis procedures
• Perform processing, inventory, labeling and shipping of Red Blood Cells (RBCS), Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP), Apheresis Platelets and Recovered Plasma (PRS)
• Perform Donor Test result entry and veri?cation. Perform Level I Release Procedures
• Utilizes additional time to work on administrative
• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
• Registered MLT possessing one of the following certifications (ASCP, AMT) or eligible Medical Laboratory Technician.
• MLT Eligibility acquired through:
o Associates degree in science in medical laboratory technology/medical laboratory technician
o Military Medical Laboratory Technician course - 60 Credit hours from George Washington University
o Note: Candidates that had military training prior to 1995- Only acceptable course is the Army's Advanced Medical laboratory course (AML) or the Air Force Medical Laboratory School Phase 1 and Phase II (Must have both phases). The Army's BML- Basic Medical Laboratory course does not qualify the candidate.
• Required verification of degree and certification through the National Student Clearing House must be provided with a candidates resume before selection.
• Must have at least one year of experience in a clinical setting environment.
• Experience in blood banking, auditing and record review a plus.
• Have and maintain a current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)
