Medical Assistant I
Work Location: Houston, TX

Job Summary/Description
Impacts patient care to patients in outpatient clinics under defined supervision. Acts as lead technical assistant in preparing patients for medical visits and procedures

Job Duties/Responsibilities/Functions (including but not limited to)
• Assists with patient examinations, treatments and procedures.
• Prepares / stocks rooms and escorts patients to rooms.
• Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician's care.
• Documents in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work.
• Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review.
• Collects laboratory specimens and performs waived laboratory testing (such as finger stick glucose and EKG tests).
• Provides transportation of patients for discharge or transfer to other areas in the hospital.
• Must position, lift and move patients as needed.
• Cleans, stores, prepares and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment.
• Maintains inventories of laboratory and medical supplies.
• Processes all required paperwork. Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma/equivalent or graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program.
Certified or eligible to be certified by one of the following based on Medical Assistant experience or preferred education:
o Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
o Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT)
o Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Health Career Association (NHA)
o National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
