Dental Assistant

Work Location: Danville PA

Job Summary/Description 

This is routine, non-professional work in assisting a dentist at chair-side during the examination and treatment of patients and in related dental clinic work. 

Job Duties/Responsibilities/Functions(including but not limited to)

  • Maintains records and dental supplies

  • Schedules and maintains appointment lists.

  • Manages housekeeping details

  • Performs minor dental laboratory procedures

  • Obtains and records patients' medical histories.

  • Prepares patients for dental treatment by escorting to appropriate area, seating and draping patient, and positioning chair.

  • Assists dentist by charting and writing the oral findings of exam.

  • Provides chair-side assistance to the dentist in conducting dental examinations and in the routine care of patients.  Mixes and prepares materials, such as fillings and cements.  Sets up and passes instruments, materials, and medications.  Dispose of instruments and materials.  Performs other routine tasks in the care of patients.

  • Develops dental x-rays and change solutions of developer and fixer as needed.

  • Sterilizes, disinfects, cleans, and oils equipment and instruments.

  • Provides oral hygiene education, such as instructing patients on a plaque control program.

  • Files and retrieves dental records and reports.

  • Maintains files on safety data sheets, infection control sheets, and the Hazardous Materials log.

  • Maintains patient treatment records, posts pertinent information, files and retrieves charts and files.

  • Maintains inventory of supplies; prepares requests for dental supplies, materials, and equipment, when needed.

  • Packages and mails laboratory cases to be sent to the dental laboratory for preparation of dental prostheses and appliances.

  • Prepares required paperwork to be sent to oral surgeons for outside dental referrals.

  • Ensures that dental clinic and office(s) are maintained in a neat and sanitary manner.

  • Write in Work Order for maintenance or repairs to the dental clinic and/or office(s).

  • Schedules appointments and maintains appointment call list and recall list; answers telephone.

  • Monitors Autoclave Test and changes cold sterilization solution every 28 days.

  • Performs other related duties, as required.

  • Assures the clinic is in compliance with CMS.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent

  • One (1) year of experience in a dental office or clinic.

  • Basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Products
