CYTOTECHNOLOGIST

HOUSTON, TEXAS

A successful and established Texas based Workforce Solutions Company is accepting applications for CYTOTECHNOLOGIST to provide technical knowledge and special skills and assists he staff in the daily operations of the laboratory. The position impacts the preparation of gynecological and non-gynecological specimens. This is a great opportunity to gain and/or enhance work experience in a premiere medical facility. JOB FUNCTIONS (INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO)

  • Receives and processes specimens such as cervical and vaginal smears, sputum, body cavity effusions, peritoneal exudates, bronchial, esophageal, gastric, duodenal and colonic brushings and washings
  • Performs advanced technical procedures such as density gradient preparations for purification of cell populations, preparation for immunocytochemistry staining and special stains for pneumocystic organisms 
  • Stains aspiration preparations rapidly and triage specimens procured by fine needle aspirations
  • Screens and analyzes all specimen preparations including those procured by fine needle aspiration making decisions on which cases are negative, suspicious or cancerous and are to be reviewed by the pathologist

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a basic science
  • Graduate from a school of Exfoliative Cytology approved by the CAHEA (Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation)
  • Cytotechnologists registered before August 1988 did not need a Bachelor’s Degree, only needed two years of college level courses with emphasis in basic sciences
  • Registry-eligible Cytotechnologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP)
