Job Description

Maintain and improve a highly specialized production environment based on IMVU proprietary software and solutions. Integrate platforms and tools directly into production servers including imaging servers, building packages, and deployment automation. Customize versions of Open Source software such as Ubuntu, Debian, MySQL, ScyllaDB, Apache Webserver, Nginx, Tomcat, Elasticsearch, Memcache, Nagios, haproxy, LVM. Provisioning and deploying servers, upgrading hardware and software. Upgrading software by setting up test environments to simulate the upgrade, coming up with tests to determine that an upgrade is safe and completed successfully; modify our provisioning system to allow for new types of servers or new behaviors for existing server.  Rack and stack, maintain and troubleshooting production hardware and servers, including hardware diagnostics, replacing hard drives and running cables.  Develop software to implement new services, inventing novel new ways of monitoring, automating manual processes. Troubleshoot any issues found in production large or small, requiring a deep understanding of specialized environment, what services exist, where and how they're interconnected including L2/L3 networking knowledge, understanding of Linux, firewalls, and working knowledge of all the services deployed. Extrapolate implications from scant and obscure log entries. Identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, both in operating systems and services.

 

Basic Academic and Experience Requirements – Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering or a related field.  Three years of experience in job offered, or a research and/or professional employment experience.  Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s degree and one year of experience. Knowledge of TCP/IP, IP layer protocols and routing protocols; experience in software development with Bash, Perl, Pythong and C; experience with GNU or Linux system administration; experience utilizing open source server software and development techniques including Apache, Nginx, MySQL, Haproxy and LVM.   Ability to effectively communicate technical information in oral and written communication in English.
