Senior Web Developer for Studio

Redwood City, CA


Studio is IMVU’s front-end web-based application that allows our over 9 million active users to contribute to the IMVU experience by creating 3D products and publishing them to our virtual catalog. We need developers to help us deliver an amazing 3D interactive product so our customers can deliver their own amazing products.  This is the cornerstone of a new product, which will drive an already successful business to new heights.  Here, you will work with other skilled engineers to solve tough problems, creating a JavaScript web application in Electron that will delight our customers and drive our business.  You will have opportunities to grow, all the while solving interesting technical challenges that are in front of us.

This role will work very closely with our visual designers and user experience experts to design a product that is both impactful and that provides a satisfying experience to our users.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A BA/BS in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent practical experience

  • At least 5 years experience as a software engineer

  • Expert understanding of modern JavaScript, CSS, and HTML

  • The ability to push back when appropriate to do the right thing by the customer and the business

  • A firm grasp of fundamentals including object oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving and complexity analysis

 

BONUS POINTS

  • Familiarity with Electron, Backbone, Handlebars, SASS, Angular, React, or other adjacent technologies

  • Experience with or interest in 3D graphics and 3D concepts such as: skeletons, meshes, textures, opacity, materials, FBX, etc

  • Experience building, or interest in building, development tools

  • Experience with or interest in 3D modeling tools such as Maya 3D, 3D Studio Max, Sketchup or Blender

  • Knowledge of the latest development trends from mobile web, including responsive design, accessibility, and site performance

  • Working knowledge of cross platform/browser issues (Edge, Firefox, Safari, Chrome)

  • Worked with or have the desire to work in test driven development

  • Experience working with a RESTful LAMP stack

  • Knowledge of the general heuristics for cacheability

  • Made contributions to open source projects

  • The ability to mentor other engineers and the willingness to learn from others

  • Interest in online communities, games, or social networking
