Lead Back-End Software Engineer - Infrastructure

Location: San Jose

IMVU’s Engineering Infrastructure team builds and maintains both production infrastructure (including real time messaging systems, code deployment, database access layers, real time cluster metrics) and corporate infrastructure (automated build and testing environments, engineering sandboxes, virtual asset management).

 

We are seeking an accomplished back-end generalist that jumps at the opportunity to learn new languages and dive deep into troubleshooting complex problems. You will have a hand in designing, engineering and maintaining both customer and engineering facing infrastructure across the IMVU ecosystem. You will get a chance to work with, and suggest the use of tools, languages, and systems that are on the bleeding edge. We create technologies and tools that maximize the productivity of every engineer at IMVU and provide a wonderful, fast, dynamic experience to our customers.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Learn new technologies, tools, and languages to aid in building the best infrastructure.

  • Build and maintain technologies on both sides of operations and engineering; corp and production, to provide the strongest infrastructure and processes.

  • Handling interrupt-driven work, and being able to maintain multiple project contexts.

  • Cross team requirements gathering and project development.

  • Develop and improve processes that aid in improving engineering velocity and stability.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional experience with multiple programing languages (we use Haskell, Erlang, Python, C++, PHP,  JS, and more)

  • Comfortable with functional programming

  • Experience with Linux/Unix systems, libraries and development.

  • Experience in 24x7 production environments, including live maintenance and data integrity

  • Capable of working independently and knowing how to unblock yourself.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a software engineer

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent practical experience.

 

BONUS POINTS

  • Expertise in one or more functional programming languages (Haskell, Erlang,.. etc)

  • Experience in continuous deployment, automated build systems, automated testing & sandbox management

  • Experience in managing a cluster of 250+  machines and the associated tools. (cfengine, Puppet, clustershell, vagrant, Fabric)

  • Experience in virtualization/containerization and associated technologies (vagrant, kvm, VirtualBox, Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals,technologies, and protocols.
