POSITION PURPOSE

The Senior PostgreSQL DBA would need to have at least 6 years of experience and minimum 2 years of managing PostgreSQL databases in a cloud environment preferably AWS. This Candidate is responsible for full life cycle support of our internal database(s) running on AWS cloud. This position is expected to design, develop, enhance, and monitor all production and non-production databases that exist within our technical architecture. The DBA must anticipate and respond effectively to needs as they emerge. The Database Administrator will be working with all our internal teams, providing technical and operational support activities of Database Servers, including logical and physical database design support, troubleshooting, performance monitoring, tuning, and optimizing.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Detailed understanding of Postgres database server architecture, concepts, features, and high availability technologies
  2. In-depth understanding of relational and dimensional database theory and concepts
  3. Responsible for the monitoring and uptime of all production and non-production databases.
  4. Experience with Postgres RDS in the Cloud is mandatory
  5. Estimate PostgreSQL database capacities; develop methods for monitoring database capacity and usage.
  6. Lead efforts to develop and improve procedures for automated monitoring and proactive intervention, reducing any need downtime.
  7. Participate in application development projects and be responsible for the database architecture and design.
  8. Participate in the creation of development, staging, and production database instances, and the migration from one environment to another.
  9. Responsible for developer SQL code review to ensure queries are optimized and tuned to perform efficiently prior to production release.
  10. Responsible for regular backups and recovery of databases.
  11. Responsible for regular maintenance on databases (e.g., Vacuum, Reindexing, Archiving).
  12. Responsible for pro-active remediation of database operational problems.
  13. Responsible for Query tuning and preventative maintenance.
  14. Support complex web-based applications.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned. 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  1. Strong experience as a Database Administrator / DBA including performance tuning and optimization
  2. Experience of building and deploying PostgreSQL clusters into production
  3. Experience of working with high availability, scalable environments
  4. Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
  5. Collaborative with strong communications skills, comfortable liaising with the business to understand user needs
