Talent Acquisition/Human Resources Generalist

Humacyte, Inc., a biotechnology pioneer, discovers, develops and delivers innovative, award winning human biotherapies.  We are currently developing multiple vascular tissue engineered therapies and expanding our business model.  With a broad pipeline of potential new therapy applications, we continue to build our organization and scientific teams.  We are looking for colleagues to continue to build our expanding team.

Candidates will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively as part of the Humacyte organization. Applicants must be highly self-motivated, with solid communication skills, and demonstrates the ability to work in a team environment and lead other professionals and peers.

Position Background:

Under the direction of the EVP of People and in consultation/collaboration with the HR Business Partner, this position will be predominately Talent Acquisition focused with other HR Generalist activities interspersed.  The ideal candidate will have a strong resume of talent acquisition experience in all areas of talent acquisition from job description development, to sourcing to offer letters and background screening, while also seeking to “break into” or grow their experience in Human Resources generalists functions.  A high degree of confidentiality is required for this position.  We believe that our employees cannot have trust in HR if confidentiality is ever breached.  This position also requires the willingness to learn and understand our business and speak with competence and confidence about our roles and structure.  This position requires a strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and with precision.  This position also requires outstanding verbal and written communication skills and the ability to speak both our company and life sciences terminology with a deep understanding of the terminology.  Strong influencing and negotiation skills tempered with tact and professionalism at all times is also crucial to the effectiveness of this position.

Primary Responsibilities:

Talent Acquisition Accountabilities:

  • Lead recruiting and selection activities to attract, motivate and retain qualified individuals capable of performing and exceeding business objectives
  • Lead the entire recruiting process from requisition through background checks from end to end
  • Expertly source passive candidates that would be ideal candidates for open positions
  • Ensure diversity in our recruitment processes by sourcing diverse candidate pools and posting positions in organizations or schools that represent underrepresented individuals
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to assess hiring needs, effectively understand requisitions, and find talent that aligns with the needs of the growing business
  • Advise hiring managers of the recruiting process from job posting to onboarding, by having regular meetings and communication
  • Ensure recruiting activity is compliant with state and federal regulations as well as with internal operating procedures
  • Utilize applicant tracking system and other recruitment tools to create job postings, review and analyze resumes
  • Thoroughly conduct phone interviews and effectively screen candidates for hiring managers
  • Schedule phone, virtual or in-person interviews (as required), and make recommendations for hire
  • Communicate interview results to candidate in a timely basis
  • Partner with universities, colleges, professional organizations, etc. to create relationships and a pipeline of candidates
  • Create and coordinate job advertising in various media.  Attend job fairs and develop and maintain contacts with colleges, universities, alumni groups and other organizations to identify potential applicants, as applicable
  • Handle employment advertising and use creative ways for identifying and attracting potential candidates
  • Ensure all pre-employment documentation is sent and received by Human Resources in a timely manner
  • Assist with onboarding tasks and compliance to include (but not limited to) background and drug testing, reference checking, etc.
  • Assist with training hiring managers on recruiting, interviewing and the selection process, as needed or required
  • Administer Employee Referral program

Generalist Accountabilities:

  • Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation
  • Maintain general knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • In collaboration with EVP and HR Manager, work with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention
  • Oversee and/or conduct new employee orientation, and other trainings in HR related areas
  • Assist with Company-wide Human Resources communications
  • Partner with the Culture Committee and/or Diversity Council to assist in executing planned and approved initiatives
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of employee files and HRIS database
  • Assist with HR administrative tasks to include compiling EEO reports, benefits information and enrollment activities, and other administrative tasks as required for HR
  • Other duties, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree 
  • 3-5 years in a fast-paced Recruiting or Talent Acquisition role, preferably in pharma, biotech or science sector
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now, a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, preferred
