Job Description

Humacyte, Inc. is bringing to market a once in a generation scientific technology platform, bioengineering readily available and universally implantable product opportunities focused on improving lives of patients and transforming the practice of medicine. Located in Durham, NC, the company develops and manufactures acellular tissues for the treatment of diseases and conditions across a wide range of therapeutic areas. The company’s innovative technology supports tissue repair, reconstruction, and replacement while overcoming limitations in existing standards of care. Initially developing a portfolio of human acellular vessels (HAVs), to target multiple vascular markets including trauma, arteriovenous access for hemodialysis, peripheral arterial disease, and coronary artery bypass grafting. Humacyte is focused on the development of future markets such as pediatric heart surgery, delivery of cellular therapies, and multiple other novel cell and tissue systems. 

We are looking for additional colleagues to continue to build our expanding team.  Candidates will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively as part of the Humacyte organization. Applicants must be highly self-motivated, with solid communication skills, and demonstrates the ability to work in a team environment and lead other professionals and peers.

Position Background:

Humacyte’s Chief Commercial Officer must be capable of providing leadership, direction and strategic vision to drive the successful commercial launch, market acceptance and growth of our first product in its initial indication(s).  This leader must be innovative, energetic, visionary and charismatic. This position will have direct interaction with the Humacyte Board of Directors and work closely with the Company leadership team.  This role is responsible for establishing and overseeing the successful direction, planning and execution of the Company first market launch and follow-on market expansion.  Additional core competencies of this role will be prior success with medical technology / pharmaceutical market launches, possession of a strong strategic vision and approach, a positive, entrepreneurial, can-do attitude, and the ability to lead and inspire others while delivering commercial success. 

This position reports to the CEO

Major Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for translating company business objectives into strategic and operational tactics for the Commercial team to achieve financial and strategic goals
  • Develop current and long-range strategies and objectives for product messaging and marketing strategy, sales plan, pricing and reimbursement to facilitate successful market launch of first product(s)
  • Develops overall organizational plan, and recruits and leads top tier talent in the areas of marketing, sales, HEOR and reimbursement
  • Leads implementation of Commercialization plan and actions of Commercialization team to ensure  a successful launch and market acceptance of the Company’s product(s)
  • Partners with Marketing, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs and Clinical leadership to ensure that sales and marketing activities meet all clinical and regulatory requirements
  • Serves as a primary liaison and subject matter expert as they relate to Humacyte products to lobbyist, payor sources including private payors and CMS, targeted markets and other strategic partners or vendors
  • Partner with the Chief Operating Officer and Supply Chain Management to ensure that product supply chain, transportation and storage concerns can be proactively addressed to mitigate potential sales challenges
  • Partner with CFO and Head of Human Resources in the development of an appropriate and competitive commission structure for Sales team
  • Lead the development of strong and meaningful relationships with Hospital and Clinic Product Placement Committees, Value Assessment Committees, and procurement leadership within market targets
  • Advise CEO and Board of Directors of the impact of pricing and payor sources/relationships can/will have on Humacyte’s financial and timeline projections
  • Defines strategies for, coordinate the execution of, and ensure appropriate health economics and outcomes research; pricing and reimbursement development; sales and marketing initiatives; and future business partnerships
  • Develop annual and long-term sales pipeline and accompanying budgets for revenues and expenses
  • Expertly lead sales team to ensure that sales targets are met or exceeded
  • Develop and maintain an up-to-date competitive analysis portfolio
  • Develop, maintain and report out quality and sales metrics for teams
  • Other duties, as assigned

Special Competencies:

  • Prior experience leading the successful market launch of medical technology and/or pharmaceutical products
  • Insight into sales and marketing of cardiovascular and/or surgical devices greatly preferred.
  • Insight into biologics reimbursement policies a plus.
  • Must be tactful and diplomatic with an emphasis on providing excellent knowledge and strategy development in the area of Commercialization
  • Demonstrated expertise in high level and complex problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Exercises excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to individuals at all levels
  • Ability to manage through distractions, perform with changing priorities and aggressive deadlines

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, required
  • Advanced degree strongly desired with focus in Business, scientific or medical field,  or similar focus preferred. 
  • 15+ years of relevant and current work experience in medical technology or pharmaceutical marketing and sales, including product launches, reimbursement,, and HEOR
  • 10+ years of demonstrated success in marketing and sales leadership role and proven management through influencing and relationship building
  • Record of success in commercialization, reimbursement, and sales of new products
