Cell R&D Associate

Humacyte, Inc., a biotechnology pioneer, discovers, develops and delivers innovative, award winning human biotherapies.  We are currently developing multiple vascular tissue engineered therapies and expanding our business model.  With a broad pipeline of potential new therapy applications, we continue to build our organization and scientific teams.  We are looking for additional biomedical research and development colleagues to continue to build our expanding team.

Candidates will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively as part of the Humacyte organization. Applicants must be highly self-motivated, with solid communication skills, and demonstrates the ability to work in a team environment and lead other professionals and peers.

Position reports to Director, Cell Research

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for culture of primary human cells for purposes of cell expansion, characterization, and tissue engineering
  • Perform qRT-PCR to screen donor cells
  • Aseptic compounding and aliquoting media and buffers
  • Construct, launch and maintain bioreactors that are used to grow engineered vascular tissues
  • Perform cell-based assays
  • Verify process data, protocols, and manage supporting documents
  • Additional duties will include support of routine lab activities, equipment management, lab maintenance, preparation of experimental materials and protocols, and ensuring good documentation practices for all activities performed
  • Schedule flexibility required for some occasional cell culture activities needed outside of standard weekday business hours (e.g. weekend cell culture maintenance activities).

Special Competencies:

  • Skilled in cell culture and bioprocessing with outstanding sterile technique
  • Skilled in qRT-PCR and associated technologies
  • Able to design and troubleshoot cell culture process optimization studies
  • Experience in media compounding and aliquoting in a closed system a plus
  • Familiarity with bioreactors, or background in biomedical or mechanical engineering, a plus
  • Familiarity with applications of statistics to standard measurements of biological systems
  • Experience with RNA, DNA, and protein isolation
  • Knowledge and experience in use and maintenance of common laboratory procedure and equipment

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline plus 3-5 years related work experience; or Master’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline plus 1-2 years related work experience.   Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to: biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering
  • Strong background/technique in aseptic processing
  • Background in one or more specialties: cell biology, molecular biology, cell technology, biomedical engineering, cell therapy, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine
  • Relevant pharma or biotech industry experience a plus
  • Experience with Biological Sample Management systems a plus
  • Experience with flow cytometry, IHC, ICC a plus
  • Knowledge of genomics and NGS methods and data a plus
  • Experience authoring and maintaining GxP documents, including SOPs and data reports
