Position Summary:

We’re seeking an experienced Chief Science Officer (CSO) to lead our R&D program in the study and application of humic substances (HS). The CSO will oversee research efforts across environmental remediation, agriculture (both conventional and organic), ag-tech additives, and turf/ornamental solutions. This is a leadership position at the intersection of science, strategy, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage HUMA’s R&D team in exploring and optimizing humic substance applications.
  • Develop and implement an R&D strategy aligned with business goals in agriculture, remediation, and biotech.
  • Guide and mentor scientists and technicians in HS-related research.
  • Produce and present internal research reports aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Cultivate research partnerships with universities, government agencies, and industry experts.
  • Advance the scientific understanding of the biostimulant modes of action from humic substances through plant physiology techniques.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences.
  • Represent HUMA in organizations like the Humic Products Trade Association, contributing to industry standards and regulations.
  • Translate scientific discoveries into improved product performance and new innovations.

Qualifications:

  • Have a PhD in Soil Science, Chemistry, Plant Physiology, Soil Microbiology, Pharmacology, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in laboratory research, including substantial work with humic substances.
  • Proven track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and securing R&D funding.
  • Experience managing high-performing, PhD-level research teams.
  • Strong background in extraction, analysis, and application of HS in plant or crop sciences.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to connect research to real-world impact.
