Technical Project Manager

Key responsibilities: Tech PM (hybris)

  • To deliver ongoing dev work or finite development projects as required

  • To deliver projects as efficiently as possible whilst creating the best product

  • To ensure that all the technical resources in the project (whether direct reports or not)

(a) understand what they are doing (e.g. have BRD, have a test environment, have  )

(b) know to what time frame they are doing it in (e.g. project planned or written understanding of when things are expected)

(c) are meeting that time frame

  • To ensure the same of all the non-technical resources in the project (which are unlikely to be direct reports)

(a) understand what they are doing (e.g. have to write RQ, have to create wireframe )

(b) know to what time frame they are doing it in (e.g. project planned or written understanding of when things are expected)

(c) are meeting that time frame

  • The quality of everything in the project is ultimately the Project Manager’s responsibility.  The PM should decide which things produce the most risk and therefore need to be focused on.  In some cases this will mean getting more/different resources and in other cases doing it yourself  e.g.

(a) The business owners can’t decide, I need to sit with them to gather and refine requirements

(b) The business owners aren’t technical, I need to explain the 2 choices in a way that’s clear to them

(c) The RQs are poor, I should clarify them

(d) The testing is poor, I should ensure I also do testing in UAT

  • Analysing the fitment of the Hybris Commerce for the business problem, identify gaps and suggest solution around Hybris with minimum customization


 Skills you will need:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in Java/J2EE

  • SAP Hybris experience is an advantage

  • Technical experience of working with development projects (and ideally websites)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent organisational and planning skills

  • Ability to come up with creative and pragmatic solutions to problems

  • Experience and / or good understanding of database technology 

  • Ability to communicate technical problems / solutions to non-technical people

Further specific duties:

  • Gather requirements from business owners and document them into a technical specification

  • "Own" the requirements documentation and ensure these are delivered on time to dev teams with clearly started priorities 

  • Work closely with the development team, clarify business requirements with the team, debate & suggest technical solutions. 

  • Ensure that the technical design of the project is sound and is performant

  • Communicate timescales for delivery and project status to business owners and discuss & agree the viability of requirements & ideas

  • Plan project milestones and development sprints 

  • Suggest areas of improvement –e.g.test cases, performance reports

  • Communicate with third party technical contacts 

  • Manage the release process 

  • Co-ordinate UAT
