Summary:

This position is responsible for leading, developing, implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving company and site policies and procedures within the organization that promote on-site safety, health and environmental compliance. This individual will cultivate a world class safety culture committed to zero: zero health, zero safety and zero environmental incidents. This individual develops training and programs to improve safety performance and will provide leadership, education and coaching to facility-based personnel. This position tracks company safety metrics (LTI, TRR, and FAR) as well as maintaining the company’s MSHA 7000-2 and OSHA 300 logs. This position provides the knowledge and leadership skills necessary to ensure a high degree of safety in the workplace, compliance with all company, MSHA, OSHA, EPA and other federal, state, and local regulatory programs and policies.

Job Duties:

· Develops, implements, and continuously improves safety programs that are intended to prevent workplace accidents and promote a strong safety culture.

· Facilitates the EHSS&Q council meetings and recommends safety improvement initiatives.

· Tracks safety KPI’s such as FAR, TIR, TIAR, LTIR, etc. and provides updates to the company and communicates any trends and gaps.

· Leads all insurance (auto and property) events and acts as liaison between the company and insurance brokers. Supports all insurance inspections and audits of facilities.

· Monitors workplace safety and coaches company personnel on proper safety practices and procedures.

· Schedules and oversees workplace inspections that identify and address potential safety hazards associated with facility equipment, mobile equipment, workplace processes, etc.

· Develops, delivers, and tracks participation in safety training programs, educating employees on safe working practices, appropriate equipment operation, and emergency procedures.

· Investigates incidents or accidents through thorough root cause analysis, gathers evidence and performs interviews, and makes recommendations for improvements via preventative and corrective action.

· Conducts on-site plant visits periodically to review facilities/work environment and interact with teams as well as periodic audits to ensure compliance with regulatory programs.

· Develops and maintains industrial hygiene and respirator programs and review and ensures annual fit testing compliance.

· Oversees site program management for general housekeeping, hearing conservation, respirator fit testing, combustible dust, and compliance programs such as emergency lightening, safety showers, and fire extinguishers.

· Oversees contractor management for the company and reviews and approves contractors for use within the company, ensures training qualifications, and/or provides recommendations to ensure safety at the facilities.

· Involved with safety reviews for new chemicals and processes at the sites within the company.

· Advises plant management of any hazards and deficiencies observed or reported and helps develop appropriate preventive or corrective action needed.

· Raises general awareness of unsafe environments and actions.

· Responsible for all regulatory communication pertaining to OSHA related incidents.

· Primarily focused on administering established policies and procedures but may have some impact on departmental budgeting, strategic planning, and procedural change.

· Leads internal auditing of sites to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and provides corrective and preventative recommendations and serves as liaison for internal and external audits, inspections, and agencies.

Skills & Experience:

· 5-10 years’ experience directly involved in Health, Safety and Environmental field and CSP or similar certification.

· Comprehensive knowledge of HSE concepts and principles.

· MSHA Part 48 and general mining experience.

· General knowledge of OSHA industrial regulations and compliance.

· Industrial hygiene, hearing conservation, and combustible dust experience preferred.

· Problem management – Risk mitigation or root cause training preferred.

· Management skills. Problem/situation analysis.

· Behavior based safety experience a plus.

· Detail oriented and attentiveness to safety trends.

Additional Information:

Classification: Exempt / Salary, paid bi-weekly, benefits eligible.

Position open: Immediate

Location: Lakewood, CO

Travel: 35% normally, up to 50% at times

Reports to: VP of Operations (indirectly to VP of R&D and GM of Mining Operations)
