About the Job:

The Tissue Culture Laboratory Manager is responsible for conducting, overseeing, and reporting on all aspects of tissue culture and laboratory activities at the Monson, MA facility. These activities include, but are not limited to: equipment acquisition and calibration/maintenance, oversight of media preparation, initiation and subculture of tissues, maintenance of in-vitro stock library, creation of production schedules, training and onboarding of new staff, strict laboratory record-keeping, maintain vendor relationships, and reporting of laboratory results to the larger team. The Laboratory Manager will lead and supervise a team of Laboratory Associates to accomplish these tasks. The Laboratory Manager will also be expected to work intimately with the Propagation and Cultivation Managers in order to effectively maintain the health and production schedule of the company’s library of cannabis cultivars. 


  • Establish, maintain and follow detailed laboratory SOPs in compliance with company, state and local regulations. 

  • Setup and manage a team of 2-4 tissue culture laboratory associates to run an aseptic tissue culture laboratory 

  • Create and maintain production schedule required to satisfy plant output demands to propagation areas for downstream cloning and production needs. 

  • Maintain strict cleanliness, sterility, and organization of tissue culture laboratory areas. 

  • Enforce strict lab entry/exit protocols and PPE standards. 

  • Keep efficient and accurate laboratory notes and records for reporting, analysis of performance, and compliance purposes. 

  • Perform, schedule, and keep records of necessary maintenance and servicing of laboratory equipment. 

  • Ensure associates adhere to sterile technique protocols when working on laminar flow benches. 

  • Display highly effective organization and ability to maintain laboratory physical/digital records and documents.  

  • Ensure that reagents and materials are ordered in a timely manner and available for daily tasks. 

  • Work with Production and Propagation Managers to develop production and in vitro induction schedules. 

  • Oversee maintenance, cleaning, storage, and sterilization of surgical tools, culture vessels, and other reusable laboratory equipment. 

  • Train new staff on laboratory protocols and aseptic workflows. 

  • Provide reports and presentations to facility management and the Chief Scientific Officer 

  • Maintain detailed production logs  

  • Conduct R&D to refine media formulations – collect detailed and organized notes including data and observations from experiments and provide detailed reports of progress to the Chief Scientific Officer 


  • Ensure interdepartmental communication to optimize facility workflows and efficiently address interdepartmental challenges.  

  • Effective leadership and training skills to create a healthy environment for technical staff. 

  • Ability to distill complex laboratory data into a presentable form to a broader, non-scientific team. 

  • Should display strong presentation skills 

  • Illustrate clear understanding of chain of command to address and escalate issues within the lab to the Director.  


  • Ensure compliance of laboratory operations with all local, state and federal regulations including those determined by: Department of Agriculture, OSHA, and any other local cannabis regulation agencies. 

  • Assist to ensure that workflow and work procedures are documented and that appropriate controls and audits are in place to ensure data and processing integrity. 

  • Facilitate the immediate adjustment of practices to accommodate regulation changes. 

  • Physical Requirements of the Job: Must be able to lift, carry and balance up to 75 pounds (125 pounds with assistance), may include walking or standing for extended periods of time, as well as stooping, bending over and/or crouching. Moderate to loud exposure to noise level. Warehouse environment with artificial light. Extensive travel via car, train, airplane. 

About You:  


  • Due to state regulations, qualified candidates for this position must be at least 21 years of age and able to pass a background check – certain criminal convictions may disqualify candidates based on state marijuana licensing regulations.

Required Education and Experience 

  • Minimum bachelor’s Degree in related science 

  • Minimum 3 years of management experience 

  • Minimum 3 years of tissue culture experience  

  • Broad knowledge of cannabis production and packaging required 

  • General knowledge of laboratory quality management 

  • Experience in manufacturing/lab environment 

  • Participation in building/launching labs a plus 

  • Experience creating and implementing SOP 

  • Budgeting, planning, and organizational skills are essential 

  • Proven organizational agility and time management skills required for daily work balancing and project related work 

  • Practical problem-solving skills 

  • Positive outlook with the ability to adapt to a changing environment 

  • Willing and able to undertake significant travel
