About the Job:

The Payroll Specialist will provide accurate reporting and maintain payroll administration for employees in accordance with Holistic policies and compliance with federal, state and local agencies. The individual will serve as the organization’s liaison between employees, management and third-party providers to discuss and resolve problems as required in payroll.

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for multiple entities.   

  • Audit timesheets for accuracy and compliance with Holistic policies and state rules, prior to processing with payroll service provider.  Work with managers for any required adjustments. 

  • Prepare and distribute employee paychecks.   

  • Update employee changes to address, taxes, pay rates, deductions and direct deposits in Payroll System.  

  • Work in coordination with third party Payroll Services Provider.  

  • Confirm the timely filing of tax and voluntary deductions 

  • Training and orientation of all new and existing employees on payroll system. 

  • Keep up to date with applicable local, state and federal laws pertaining to payroll. 

  • Run reports for benefits, finance and other departments upon request. 

  • Prepare reports for workers comp monthly premiums.  Assist with Annual Workers Comp audits as needed. 

  • Assist employees with payroll questions 

  • Perform other accounting duties as assigned. 

  • Physical Requirements of the Job: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform reaching, grasping, lifting, walking, standing, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. May include walking or standing for extended periods of time, as well as stooping, bending over and/or crouching. Ability to tolerate moderate to loud exposure to noise level. Exposure to long periods of bright lights. Long periods of prolonged use of office equipment including computers and phones. 

About You:  


  • Due to state regulations, qualified candidates for this position must be at least 21 years of age and able to pass a background check – certain criminal convictions may disqualify candidates based on state marijuana licensing regulations.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting or related fields preferred 

  • 3+ years of experience with multi-state payroll processing  

Technological Skills:  

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office, Excel, HRIS systems, and comfortable with learning new technical systems as needed. 

  • Strong knowledge of Kronos payroll software preferred 

Required Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, ethics, and cultural awareness 

  • Resourceful, strong problem-solving aptitude and thorough knowledge of HR procedures and policies   

  • Proven experience working in a payroll department    

  • Strong Time Management skills.  Ability to meet deadlines.
