Solutions Consultant/Higher Education Technology Solutions


Job Summary

The Solutions Consultant plays a critical role within the Higher Education Technology Sales Team at Hobsons by identifying and aligning our product offerings with client demand and expectations with the end goal of maximizing revenue and ensuring the highest level of client satisfaction. 


We are currently seeking a Solutions Consultant to work in either our Arlington, VA or Cincinnati, OH office, or someone to work remotely, preferably in the Northeast, though not a requirement. 


Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement innovative ideas to meet and exceed client expectations
  • Identify and align Hobsons product offerings with client demands
  • Participate in the development and execution of the strategy including the identification of milestones and tactics necessary to win
  • Identify key customer influencers and decision makers and develop relationships in the account to ensure a Hobsons decision
  • Develop complex demonstrations and presentations as they apply to customer/prospect problems and need, ensure demonstrations map back to prospect RFP and RFI requirements, and skillfully articulate the feature benefits as they apply to prospect requirements
  • Develop and lead the product strategy for the opportunity with input from the Sales and Product Marketing Teams and Solutions Consulting Management
  • Lead discovery sessions with prospects to map customer requirements to Hobsons functionality
  • Anticipate and handle objections during the sales process articulating clear and concise responses that position the benefits of Hobsons’ solutions
  • Qualify and validate the appropriate technical sales strategy and activities to help drive team revenues
  • Support RFP/RFI activities and deliverables
  • Support Hobsons’ business development activities, marketing events and industry trade shows
  • Act as a liaison between Sales and our internal partners (Client Success, Product Development etc.) for the purpose of knowledge sharing
  • Train internal partners regarding both industry practices and standards as well as the Hobsons suite of products
  • Provide on-going technical support to well-qualified prospects conducting evaluations; this may include training, trouble-shooting, and best-practices consulting
  • Transition all information gathered during the sales cycle to the Client Development team


Minimum Qualifications

An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  An example of an acceptable qualification for this position is:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent job experience
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in solutions consulting, higher education, or related position
  • Knowledge and understanding of the following:
    • One or more of the following: CRM Solutions, Online Application, Knowledge Base/FAQ, Student Information Systems
    • Higher Education domain expertise and industry knowledge, especially experience with admissions and recruitment, strategic enrollment management, retention
    • Hands-on experience with systems and application design, development languages and visual application development tools a plus
  • Skills in the following areas:
  • Ability and comfort presenting to C-Level executives and IT professionals
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills; ability to advise team members in creating and delivering clear and compelling demonstrations
  • Solid project managements skills – is capable of managing multiple tasks, proposals, projects and deals at any given time
  • Deliver high-quality and compelling presentations and demonstrations focused on prospect requirements to key decision makers and influencers
  • Deliver high quality work and meet deadlines for both internal and external customers
  • Ability to work with a team to solve business problems in selling situations
  • Willingness to travel to accomplish sales team objectives; estimated travel is 50% and primarily located in the United States
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across a broad range of constituencies
  • Display initiative and self-motivation and help promote these qualities within the team
  • Effectively utilize  sales automation systems including, email and other communication vehicles
  • Seek and use feedback for continuous improvement and provides feedback to other sales team members


Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
